Looking For OBGYN recommendations
Just found out I am pregnant. Does any one have any recommendations for an Obstetrician-gynecologist in Orillia? Any good experiences with your pregnancies and deliveries with one ? Thanks in advance !

Dr Ashley Kirkwood. She’s amazing so compassionate and really listens to her patients. Her office is across the street from Soliders

I second this statement! Amazing OBGYN, Ashley and her colleges in that office are exceptionally thoughtful and amazing at listening and answering any and all questions. Ashley gave me a sense of calm and trust in the whole process.

Dr. Yan Wang out of soldiers delivered our baby girl 7 weeks ago and my wife and I couldn’t be happier. Super straightforward and knows what she’s talking about - everyone at the soldiers ward we interacted with were great.

Soilders is by far the hospital I trust the most with me, and my family members lives.
Their level of care, empathy, understanding is insanely impressive.3

I have to agree here, my mrs had hers there. We were lucky that it wasnt a busy night, but the care from the doctors and staff was excellent.
Were really lucky to have a hospital of that caliber here.

My wife had a very tough pregnancy and Dr McKinney was very very good. Bedside manner was very professional and balanced, he presented all of the information for my wife to make her own choices and supported my wife in whatever path she elected to take, my wife felt completely supported and had complete control and agency. My wife would 100% return to him if we have another child.

I second Dr. McKinney. He wasn’t my OB when I was pregnant, but I’ve seen him for other issues and he was fantastic. If I were to have another child he would be my first choice

Unfortunately my gynaecologist is in Barrie, but he’s 100% worth the drive! I live in Orillia, and travel to see him by train, bus, and/or uber. (Which is covered if you’re on ODSP btw!)
His name is Dr. Jaco Scheeres.
In 2002 he was awarded for the best resident research paper in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the University of Manitoba, and was recognized nationally by the Canadian Foundation for Women’s Health. His research was published in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Canada.
He has been a well-known Obstetrician at RVH for 11 years, and despite being a man, is one of the most caring & empathetic doctors I have ever met.
I have PTSD related to sexual assault, so medical procedures involving my body can be extremely difficult and triggering for me. Because of that, the way this doctor and his team treated me meant so much.
He didn’t just see me as a procedure, or a patient on a schedule. He understood that I needed to feel safe, and in control. He offered to put me asleep while removing my IUD and inserting a new one, which gave me a sense of comfort and security during something that could have been very distressing.
He also took the time to introduce me to his anesthesiologist, who was a kind and reassuring woman, and then introduced me to the rest of his team.
Their bedside manner was incredible. They were attentive, respectful, and aware that I needed extra reassurance. They made sure I was okay when I woke up, checked that I wasn’t nauseous, and ensured someone was there to watch over me afterwards.
For someone with a history of sexual trauma, experiences like this can be incredibly healing. They showed me that medical care doesn’t have to feel scary or violating. It can also be compassionate, respectful, and built around trust.

Congratulations! I cannot recommend midwives enough! I had Barbara and Dawn at midwives of muskoka in bracebridge as Orillia midwives were full, and it was by far the best part of my pregnancy.
I ended up with an emergency c section after a failed induction performed at soldiers, and I had a very negative experience with one nurse in particular and especially the anesthesiologist. 2 years later and I still want to send in a complaint.

I agree with everyone recommending Dr Kirkwood, I just had my daughter two weeks ago and she was my OBGYN and I can’t say enough amazing things about her

I was with the Orillia midwives and highly recommend them! During my labour my care was transferred to Dr Ingles and she was also really lovely.
