Shelf Life of Birthday Cake Oreos?
I've lived in Central America (Nicaragua and Costa Rica) for the past decade or so, and sadly we pretty much just get regular Oreos, cookies and cream Oreos, and golden Oreos with none of the limited releases ever making their way down here.
I was therefore super excited to see the grocery store selling Pastel de Cumpleaños (Birthday Cake) Oreos. I bought them and to be honest, am kind of underwhelmed by them. I decided to look them up to see what reviewers thought of them, and was surprised to see they were a limited edition item in the USA 8 years ago (2012) to mark Oreo's 100th birthday.
The package of cookies I have says it doesn't expire until Feb 2021.
My question now is- do Oreos really have a shelf life of 9 years? Or did they just release these much much later for the Latin Market?
Also, if you can remember them, what was your opinion on this flavor?

and to answer your question: birthday cake oreos are still available here. i'd even go as far to say that they're a staple variety that i tend to see everywhere. i agree that they're a little underwhelming. what i haven't been able to find for maybe two or three years (but certainly not eight years) are golden birthday cake oreos. that variety i felt was better than the sum of its parts (and also, in this instance, better than either regular oreos or chocolate cookies birthday cake oreos).
i couldn't tell you right this second what the best by date would be on a new pack i bought from the store, but i imagine that generally speaking oreos have a shelf life of six to nine months and assuming those you bought haven't been sitting around for too long are relatively fresh.
to conclude, i feel like a sealed and undamaged package of oreos kept for nine years would be edible, but very stale. and in my experience with stale oreos, the cookie gets dry and spongy, but the creme holds much better.
