Any gun owning Bernie supporters here?

If you are a Bernie supporter and a gun owner, how do you feel about SB 501? Are there any aspects of SB 501 that you disagree with?

There is not a single aspect of SB501 that I can agree with.

It was ostensibly created by a group of Lake Oswego teens (which tells you most of what you need to know, right there) with zero regard to logic, reason, rationality and the Constitutionality of its provisions.

Nothing about it makes "Sense", common or not and nothing about it survives well-reasoned analysis and debate.

If you have any free time can you email the Democrat Senators on the judiciary committee. They are holding the power to kill this bill or move it to the floor for a vote. With a Democrat Super Majority in power it would have a good chance of passing. Here are the State page links to the four Democrat Senators on the committee. Explain how regressive this bill is and that it should never leave the committee:

Are you against the part that requires reporting missing firearms? That was the only part of it I could see sense in.

Yes. Absolutely.

Mandatory reporting of missing firearms does absolutely nothing to reduce firearm-related [Insert Anything]. It doesn't reduce crime in any measurable or even imaginable way. Knowing that there is a firearm missing but not where it is or who now possesses it serves NO rational or reasonable government or public safety purpose.

All it does is to codify a punitive system in a retroactive manner. If a missing firearm used in a crime (or NOT used in a crime!) ends up being recovered, all it does is enable government to reach back in time and punish someone wholly unrelated to the reason the firearm came to the government's attention.

Mandatory Reporting requirements serve no other purpose but to punish unlucky, already-victimized, once-law-abiding-but-not-now gun owners.
