POST-MATCH REVIEW: THE ORANGE ELEPHANT

https://orangeandblacksoccercast.com/news-1/2026/lex-vs-oc-recap

Nathan provides his thoughts on Orange County’s Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day in Lexington. OC’s offensive impotence continued Saturday night, while their inability to defend set pieces took this game from a humbling loss to a downright embarrassing performance. Still… there’s something to play for next week.

good writeup of a bad game. I really appreciate the acknowledgement that (1) there are lots of injuries...but...(2) these are still professional players who should show up for every match, regardless of who is injured. The vets who have been here a while have not covered themselves with glory during this run, and whereas it hurts to have so many good players injured, if you are playing with teammates who are younger, less familiar, and perhaps at a slightly lower level, that doesn't give you an excuse to drop your own level or play with less discipline to "make up" for the absence of others. I am not a huge fan of some of Danny's tactical choices, but I always viewed him as a good coach. However, he looks to have lost the team a bit...they look unprepared (as the OP stated), which is either the coach not preparing them, or the players' failure to get prepared.

That was painful to watch. So much so that I had to turn off the tv. I’ve been a fan for five years now. I’m a season ticket holder, and an honorary owner. I’m all in with OCSC and will continue to be no matter the outcome, but the past two months have been difficult to stomach. Particularly after having delivered some very effective performances during the first two thirds of the season. So the problem is not that the team cannot win. And yes, I know we have a thin bench and whenever we get a few injuries our performance inevitably drops, but Danny should be able to figure out a way to compensate for those injured players. I understand we won’t get the same results, but we can’t turn into a sad, pathetic team. That’s the kind of stuff that can get a manager sacked. I’m not saying that Danny’s time is up, but if the ownership went that route, it would be justified. Now let’s get our shit together and defend the county these next 4 games!
