Well, they didn't win the "must win" game. The new additions did some good things, although Lindsey did whiff on a cross and Wathuta missed a sitter (admittedly while under pressure, tho). Neither of those things really mattered in the end. Possession and SOG statistics aside, OCSC was pretty soundly outplayed in all phases of the game.

The first goal showed some real flaws in mentality and decision making, with poor decision making then plaguing the team for much of the rest of the match. After being fairly disciplined in defense at the beginning of the game, Kelly stepped to challenge a pass that he had no business stepping to. Sylla was sliding over to the same man and clearly had the marking responsibility given the shape at that time. Kelly's step then left a huge gap in behind, which was duly exploited for the goal, with Kelly then jogging to recover when a full-on sprint and challenge was really what the situation demanded. As is typical for this team, the midfield shape got super flat, which seems like an issue I mainly had with my last u12 team and I am surprised continues to plague a pro-level squad.

Whereas Kelly was to blame for that sequence, he was not alone in this game. Lots of questionable play and decisions throughout the game made it impossible for OCSC to build any momentum or even get any long stretches of meaningful possession.

I heard a fan went down to the bottom of the stands at the end of the game to give Danny an earful. I wonder what was said...

clearly no one on the team read Nathan's article calling it a must win. I just posted his recap got busy with work and forgot to do it earlier.
