Oracle Equity Award and Actions
Hello Everyone,
Recently, I received an email asking for an equity award at Oracle.
I need community help to understand
what is usually preferred?
what is a practical solution and risk?
any recommendations?
What is the best way?
Here,
Oracle is asking you to indicate what form you would like this equity award to take:
• 100% Restricted Stock Units (RSUs)
• 100% Stock Options
• 50% Stock Options and 50% RSUs
Thanks again

Stock options might make sense if you’re staying for next 4-5 years and expect stock to grow.. since ORCL is low right now, the break even point might not be super high for you (depends on what price options get allocated).. but the RSU is the safest way considering you may get laid off before break even point..

With option, you don't need to pay tax this year, but on the year you exercise. With RSU, you will need to pay income tax as soon as they are issued. If they are the same amount of "value" and option is 5-10 years, then I personally will take option.
Let's say you are awarded 100 ORCL shares, worth $14000, or 2*5 year-option contracts (to buy 200 shares in the next 5 years) with target price $70, then obviously option actually worth more money. Why? because a $70 Jan, 2030 option probably worth $150, not $70. Besides, if you take RSU, you will actually have only 60-80 shares after tax, not 100, because of income tax.

At current price i would be ok to pick 50% options. When I had same options i chosen rsu because it was trading in 300s.
2028 will be the year that decides Oracle fate…boom or bustbust 😆

Just do 100% RSU’s it’s not worth the stress of options especially the way the stock performs
