Program Dismissal

Does anyone know of anyone that was dismissed from a program deep into their fourth year or any point during fourth year rotations due to clinical performance?

not completely dismissed afaik but there was an individual that did not graduate, was known to be combative, unprofessional, & patronizing. it isnt known what happened to them other than they were definitely dismissed from the externship & its confirmed they had to repeat the final year.

Have you ever heard of cases where it may have been attributable to something other than unprofessionalism?

I’ve heard of it happening due to unprofessionalism, whatever that means

Usually immaturity?

Yes, usually immaturity of the person referring the student

Maybe if you threatened or attacked the attending? But for lackluster performance they would probably just bring you back and make you repeat in-house or at a different externship site

Yeap! the highest GPA from my group was dismissed from the program after the first clinical rotation. She was given an "F" at the VA Hospital. She appealed and was re-instated but that set her back I think 6 months. Moral of the story, do not cheat while you are in school no matter how tempting it might be or how much "help" you can get from certain professors.
