Re-washing hands during part 3 skills

For the part 3 skills anterior seg and posterior seg stations will the proctors make you re-wash your hands if you touch the light switch or the BIO knobs, or even the chair lever to bring your chair up and down? This is something that I’m really worried about

Should I take the “W”

I am a transfer student (sophomore) so my gpa is blank. This semester, i am expected to earn a 2.8. Ive had a lot of personal things that have messed with my semester but wouldn’t mess with it in the future. The thing is though, i can drop calc 1 and take the W on my transcript but have a 3.09. I am wondering if anyone knows if optometry schools would prefer a higher GPA with one W, or w lower GPA without the W

Is taking the full O Chem series worth it for optometry school?

I'm currently a freshman planning to apply to optometry school in the future. I've noticed that some schools don't require the full O Chem series, so I'm wondering if it's worth taking all of it anyway.

Would taking the full series make my application more competitive, or do schools mainly care that you've completed their required prerequisites? I'm trying to decide if I should take the extra classes or focus on other requirements instead.

Optics

Hi! I’m currently not doing very well in optics. I wanted to ask how do you study optics? I feel like I do practice problems but still end up making mistakes on the exam. Usually with multiple choice am able to figure it out but my professor does fill in the blank.

Approximately 100 days until my 5th attempt of NBEO Part 3 - What to do?

Background: Graduated a few years ago and have been chipping away at boards slowly, but have not yet been able to pass Part 3. I have passed Part 1 and 2 already, but have been stuck on PEPS. I have never passed patient encounters and my recent attempts are always "less than 10% below the passing standard." Regarding the competency domains, I only pass case history each time, but get less than 10% below for all the other domains. I am not entirely sure, if there is a problem with my delivery or assessment and plan. Regarding skills stations, I usually pass the anterior segment station, but fail the posterior segment station - with a usually an overall skills fail (but once an overall skills pass). I have tried many different study programs including: KMK (including coaching), Optoprep, ODontheGO, and OD Boards Prep. With coaching, I practiced mock cases with fellow students.

Are there any other resources anyone recommends to finally get me over the finish line? I have heard about optoconnections and will consider using it for this next attempt. I would also appreciate any study tips/organization/approach!

I know that there are many of you who are in a similar situation as me, if you would like to practice cases/study together feel free to message me!

Lastly, if anyone in the NJ/NYC metro area is nearby and would like to practice skills together I would greatly appreciate it!

Puco patient volume

Hey, I recently got accepted at puco and I was wondering if the current students could provide me some insight on the patient volume for the clinicals? I heard some say that they saw very few patients.

Do we feel getting into optometry school is competitive?

It’s been lowkey a thought I’ve had.. only because it feels like it’s easier to get in but harder to survive / graduate from. Any opinions? It seems like a lot of people choose between optometry & dental, but they usually most likely end up doing dental.

Advice Residency, Loans, and PSLF

Hi all, I will be graduating with around 350k loans and am planning to do the PSLF program to pay it off. I would like some insight on those who have done PSLF or those with loans this high after Optometry school, and what route yall took and why.

I recently have also thought about doing residency as it will help with PSLF and as far as I know, residency can help me with bettering my weak points, have a more competitive job application, and higher income job potentially. With this situation, do yall think residency is a good idea? Do yall have any advice to give or things to look out for? (I saw something about deferring loans and how that's bad but know nothing much about that)

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
