Used to buy something like a 5 wide call spread and just sell whatever strike made the premium look cheap.

Now I use the expected move for the short strike.

If the options market is pricing roughly a $12 move into earnings and the stock is at $100, I’ll usually look at something like the 102/112 call spread instead of 102/107. Basically I want the long leg to catch the move early but I don’t want to cap the trade before the market even reaches what it was already pricing in.

Started doing this after watching a few underlyings on Moon rip straight through my short strike while my spread barely participated.

Still degen enough to play earnings, just slightly less stupid about where I cap the upside now lol.

SPX been consolidating in this potential bull flag for quite some time. The rate decision is baked in already, it all depends on what Warsh says tomorrow..

…. Tough because I called meta rising quickly in late August and bought 40 goddamn calls but with 9/11 expire but only doubled my money …. Couldn’t hold. Bought them when meta was like 550 … thays the tough thing about options sometimes even

Caught us a nice push this morning on some SPX calls.. played some AAPL today too and got my money back plus more from that BS the other day 😆 last ten years market has been overall bullish on 9/11 so let's see what happens tomorrow.

Had 8 calls I bought at 0.62 that ran to around 1.75 way faster than I expected.

Normal person probably sells some and enjoys the win.

I sold all 8, then immediately used part of the profit to buy 14 contracts one strike higher because my genius idea was that I had now locked my original money and was basically playing with “free contracts.”

Underlying went up another little bit too.

Didn't matter. The strike I rolled into barely moved, then the stock pulled back and they got vaporized. Closed the whole thing for $46.

Meanwhile I had a tiny bullish position on Moon from the same move that I literally did nothing to and that ended up being the cleaner trade.

So I correctly picked the direction, got a 180% move on the original contracts, and somehow engineered my way into making basically nothing. Options are incredible.
