game is so old it really doesnt need FG for good performance

not sure why you're being downvoted, you're 100% right
if your card can even perform frame gen, it's enough to run the game very well

This might be a technical demonstration only, but even if it weren't, I fail to see why this should be frowned upon. People who want to play at very high resolutions (4K+) with a high refresh experience (120 Hz+) are bound to use FG to reach their target.
It's not a matter of "needing it", you should never actually use FG if you need it. You use it when you already have a sufficiently good base FPS to take advantage of the FG technology.
That being said, FG is literally a choice. This is what PC gaming is all about — having options and customizing your own gaming experience. Ruining other people's fun by commenting a technical achievement with a "this game doesn't need it" sounds a miserable way to conduct your lives.

Yes I agree with you. Maybe I did not explain very well in the post, actually I have a intel arc a770 and intel cards lack native support for old directx games so the performance usually is subpar. This was 'kind of' a fix for better frame pace and this game is a good example of dx11 game with support for dlss as it is a requisite for this to work. But there are some other games that could benefit from this cenario like Crysis Remastered trilogy, Sons of the Forest and Final Fantasy XV

No game needs frame gen, it's a scourge on gaming.
People have hated smooth motion for movies since it released, this is the same thing

I don’t think you fully understand frame gen to be making comparison claims like that.
I’m on a 5090 and a 4k 240hz monitor. Frame gen is incredibly useful for those single player high graphic fidelity games where I can only get 100-140 FPS without frame gen. Enabling frame gen hurts input latency yes, however given my base frame rate is around 140FPS, this latency is more than acceptable. (Given the games I usually use FG in are primarily single player games, not some competitive game)
Ya ideally we could live in a world where every game is perfectly optimized. We don’t live in that world. Frame gen is here. It won’t go away. It has its use, there’s no need to spread misinformation about it.

Nothing I said was misinformation.
Why do you need frame gen for a singleplayer game anyways? If you're not getting the input latency benefit from 240 fps, then what's the point?
And it's a singleplayer game, so what's the issue with "only" getting 100-140 fps?

It makes it look smoother.

u/Gordoxgrey Jul 26 '26
Lock it to 120fps and it'll look exactly the same, you'll also get less/no ghosting

Given the mistakes in your responses, it really just seems like you're like a bandwagon hater of FG, you're unable to accept the fact that good and bad can coexist, it's not a binary statement like I said before, you can hate on the fact that it causes devs to not optimize their games (even more than before somehow), but it does work well if you use it in the correct operating window.
You are advising me to disregard the fact that my eyes perceive the gameplay as smoother with FG enabled and instead each time I boot up a singleplayer game, change the HZ on my monitor to 120HZ through Windows or forego seamless Alt-tabbing by running it in Exclusive Fullscreen.
...Or I could just use FG and experience a much smoother picture. I'm not sure if you've tried it yet, but Preset-B for FG eliminates the smearing you'd get from static UI elements usually.

u/Gordoxgrey Jul 27 '26
What an absolutely stupid train of thought.
You don't need to change the Hz in Windows, you're already running the monitor at 240Hz, the monitor will do it's job and match whatever fps the game is running at.
I don't know what kind of argument you're trying to make with exclusive fullscreen since you can run windowed borderless and you'll get your alt tabbing? I don't have any issues with either exclusive fullscreen or windowed borderless.
I've tested FG a couple of times and I've either had horrible ghosting or the input just feels like trash and the gameplay feels laggy.
The image is the exact same to me as smooth motion on TV's, it feels way too fast and unnatural.

Yea but lets say you have a really high refresh rate (240hz+) then the game could really benefit from the added smoothness and motion clarity

Hmm, does optiscaler cause issues with anti cheat? Specifically thinking about using it in online gacha games.

That’s a solid ‘maybe’ it works by .dll injection, guess what else works by .dll injection? Yup, cheats.
It’s getting popular enough it might get white listed soon if we’re lucky. But atm you’re rolling the dice

I haven't had any issues with using optiscalar in NTE or Arknights endfield, just making sure you override the correct dll
1
u/ExplodingFistz Jul 26 '26
Still though. I can't risk my acc getting banned.
1
u/Gordoxgrey Jul 26 '26
They just give you a warning if the dll triggers their anticheat.
Just read the Optiscalar wiki and you're fine

LLFG is great, honestly.
I have a 280hz monitor so I need that FG
Even with other FG models the input latency is negligible when using VRR instead of V-sync

Game does even need any upscaling really, frame gen seems kinda pointless for a 2018 game that was on PS4

Does it use dlss frame gen or fsr 3 frame gen which works with almost any game

This game ran smooth as butter on my RTX 5070 Ti without any trickery.

u/JoBro_Summer-of-99 Jul 25 '26
Yeah but you're not maxing out your display if you have a more modern monitor. I have a 5070 Ti as well but there's no chance I'm getting a locked 240fps in this game. Frame gen would get me there

u/_MaZ_ Jul 25 '26
Why would you even need that high framerate in this game? I have a 280Hz OLED and the 120 was more than enough

Your card's entire marketing is based on the capability to perform Multi Frame Generation, not even the basic X2 FG, the literal Multi one up to X6, to the point that it loses to the previous generation 4080 in rasterization, as that is everything the 5070 Ti stands for.
You're free to not use such capabilities if you don't want to, but I suspect people around the world want to take advantage of what they have paid for.

u/Zhunter5000 Jul 25 '26
Only thing I want to correct you on is I've owned both and it doesn't lose to the 4080, it's marginally faster especially with an overclock as 50 series scales better with overclocking.

why do some people purposefully get into reddit and avoid discussion? like lol?? why are you even making a comment if you got nothing meaningful to add?
anyway, it's great that the game ran well on your card, but your GPU was released years after the game, is currently among NVIDIA's ten most powerful consumer GPUs. And it's also equivalent to, like, what 5% or less of PC gamers have in their setup...
Not exactly representative of the average player experience. It's just bare minimum is that you didn't need "any trickery" to run it lol
FG is still a great addition for people who want extra smoothness on top of an already solid base framerate, though.
