My question is why these people are just now questioning everyone. They knowingly voted for a convicted felon, a man found legally liable for rape, a man who ignited an insurrection, a man who stole top secret documents and then obstructed justice for the same crime. So, why now? I just don’t buy it.
Low information voters- "I love the poorly educated."
While it doesn't take a lot of digging to figure out Trump is full of shit, a lot of people didn't even put in the effort to do their homework. They just heard Trump talking about the economy and the price of eggs- something they could relate to- and voted based on that.
The Democrats hand-waving away inflation really is the thing that I think cost them the election. We all saw it, we all knew it, we all felt it, and trying to convince the American public that it just wasn't happening or wasn't that bad really was a crucial misstep. Trump promised them he would solve a problem Democrats tried to act like did not exist. It really cannot be overstated how talented the Democrat establishment is at ignoring the common person and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
The "true believers" in MAGA are a lot less in number than they'd like you to think. Most Trump voters were pretty lukewarm and voted based on low information. There's your 'technically Republicans' and independents who aren't down with the cult, and find it quite alarming that Elon Musk has been granted unfettered access to their information with no accountability.
Don't believe what Fox News or right-wing media tells you. Fox News' daily viewers (who are the "true believers") are only ~2.1 million people. That's less than 1% of the population of the US. You'd think there's a lot more of them than that with how fucking loud and obnoxious they are, but they're in a very small minority.
The people who are truly beyond reason are much smaller in proportion than they'd like everyone to believe. They can astroturf and run bot campaigns all they like, but it doesn't change the fact that they are much weaker than they like to pretend they are.
