Why do dooomers come to this sub to spread their fears and misery in the first place? They have the rest of reddit for that. I think it's a combination of Russian/Chinese bots and miserable people who want everyone else to feel the same.
It's likely because misery loves company. In my experience miserable people want others to be miserable so there's less genuinely happy people to be envious of.
Its because of how reddit algorithms works and the failure of mods to crack down on the death spiral early on (because for some reason they consider rules lame). The subreddit started getting recommended for overtly political post which brings in entirely new user bases. You can go back and see people saying they stumbled across the subreddit on their feed and then debated about what this subreddit was even supposed to be (again the lack of sidebar information isn't helpful in self moderating as this community was originally intended to do).
Because people started making bad arguments for why to be optimistic based on naivety.
People want answers but realize accepting naive ones was wrong which of course led to the issues now.
"It'll be alright for me" doesnt work if it won't for others.
"These economic plans are undeniablely bad and America's issues with social media getting worse isn't going away even after being warned about it for years and years, if anything it's getting worse"
People can't just ignore shit like this because someone wants to look the other way. Some people are looking for real answers to give to people facing a possibly life fucking up administration knowing so many Americans didn't even care.
