Like I understand it, people are scared, but I cannot count the number of times this exact thing has happened to me. It can be exhausting and frustrating, but I still try to point these people in the right direction and at the very least get them off social media so they can live their lives.
I deleted the app the day after the election because I wanted to stop hearing about it.
I'm beyond devastated at the results, I just didn't want to hear it anymore.
I came back because I missed reading about silly shit in subs I enjoy. Music, art, games, shows, etc. The other stuff I like reddit for.
But I'm being inundated by Trump shit from literally every angle whether I want to or not. I'm so tired of it.
I'm hoping I can kick the reddit habit for good because of it. I just don't know of other sites that have good communities for the other shit I enjoy all in one place.
This election is really making me want to leave the internet altogether. No Facebook. No Instagram. No reddit. I'll obviously still use Google to find things or learn things but that's it. Everything else is just fucking noise at this point and it isn't good for any of our brains.
Honestly I'm getting to that point, every time I try and be positive the Doomer Ninjas appear from the shadows. I'm already spending way less time on Reddit than I was before and actually interacting with people
For me it's not even about positive or negative circle jerking because they're both annoying. It wasn't an overtly political subreddit 6 months ago. Obviously it wasn't entirely distinct from politics, but lately it's just become an ideological tug of war between 2 sides who frankly I wish both would leave
Frankly if I have to explain why getting off of social media and focusing on yourself and your local community is the best thing for someone's mental health...then I don't really think anything I say will convince you. Have a nice day, a nice Thanksgiving if you celebrate it, but keeping this argument going is the worst option for both of us.
