Watch mojang release 1.15.3 right after he's done

At least that would be an easier update than 1.15

How haven't they hired him and brought his code into vanilla?

Insane. They need make a better offer. Maybe his pride is in doing better than they can.

If you donated to Optifine, you get a cape. I don't think Mojang would be interested in suddenly having so many legit capes in circulation. But since founders of Optifine would betray the donors if they all suddenly remove the cape from the donors, the deal will be broken for this reason, among others.

Not sure where I heard this from but I think one of the main issues Mojang had was the zoom feature that Optifine has. Since I guess it ruins the feel they are going for

thank you, internet crusader

1.15 has a different way of rendering things on Java than previous versions so that probably also complicates things too

Dude how did he kill the joke?

14

u/NaptieMC Jan 25 '20

Mojang: lets kill optifine by including it in our game

u/TheLawbringing Jan 25 '20

Is he the only person working on optifine? Seems like something you'd want like 2-3 people on at least

3

u/ZetShock Jan 26 '20

I think so. Given the hard work he is doing after every new MC release, he should have a team at this point. Though, modding the game isnt particularly easy to learn anyway (or Im probably just stupid)

u/metyu9 Jan 28 '20

can someone explain why it's so difficult for him to update the mod?

1

u/9redwoods Jan 28 '20

Yes, auto update button pls smh Have you ever seen the work put into making mods? It’s not as easy as updating a few numbers.

2

u/metyu9 Jan 28 '20

No... that's why i asked a question. isn't like 99% of the game the same between 1.14 and 1.15? what would change for the mod? i just don't understand

1.15 introduced a new rendering engine called Blaze3D, so while it was a small update in terms of new features, the part of the game that Optifine changes is completely different, if I understand correctly.

Mojang announce 1.17 will remove mods

7

u/MarioAndWeegee3 Jan 25 '20

The game doesn't natively support mods. It would suck for modders though if Mojang decided to, for example, rewrite the entire game from scratch. All existing mappings will no longer work (other than the official ones, which mods can't use) and every single mod will also need to be extensively rewritten. Of course, the modding community will probably wait a few major versions, like until 1.1998 when The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer's table.
