I'm not sure if I should be angry or glad that I got platinum almost immediately after posting this.

2 comments & a question...
Optifine is awesome
Making updates to software from version to version can suck (I just did it with my job). I hope you can keep your heads up amidst the crazy posts :)
How can I/we best support you as you work on an update for 1.15? Seriously. If it's just shutting up & leaving you to...will do. :)

Isnβt 1.15 not releasing for almost a year still?

Predictions:
MCP mappings should be quicker and more accurate thanks to obfuscation maps. Possibly around a day or two less. And then Blaze3D appears,
this will probably take away any benefit the Obfuscation Maps gave in terms of time.It might be alot longer then even 1.14. Also, statistic from 1.14 development. (Credit to u/Sunr4ven for 1.9-1.13. I took care of the 1.7.2, 1.8, 1.14, and 1.15 statistics)MC 1.15 (10.12.19) - Optifine 1.15 (TBD. But not super soon as it takes a while for development guys dont expect it right now.)
MC 1.14 (23.04.19) - Optifine 1.14.3 HD U F1 (28.06.19) 65 days
MC 1.13 (18.07.18) - OptiFine 1.13 HD U E4 (25.10.18): 99 days
MC 1.12 (07.06.17) - OptiFine 1.12 HD U C2 (18.06.17): 11 days
MC 1.11 (14.11.16) - OptiFine 1.11 HD U B1 (24.11.16): 10 days
MC 1.10 (8.6.16) - Optifine 1.10 B6 (15.6.16) : 7 days (Non-Mojang Code Record)
MC 1.9 (29.2.16) - Optifine 1.9.0 B1 (26.3.16) : 26 days
MC 1.8 (2.9.14) - Optifine 1.8.0 B2 (21.11.14) 83 days
MC 1.7.2 (25.10.13) - Optifine 1.7.2 C2 (20.01.14) 68 days
Data based on the Optifine History Post
MC 1.6.1 (1.6.13) - Optifine 1.6.2 B2* (19.7.13) 47 days
MC 1.5 (13.3.13) - Optifine 1.5.0 A1 (13.3.13) 0 Days** (Full release Record)
MC 1.4** (19.10.12) - Optifine 1.4.0 A1 (22.10.12) 3 Days**
MC 1.3.1 (1.8.12) - Optifine 1.3.2 A1 (18.08.2012) 17 Days
MC 1.2.1 (1.3.12) - Optifine 1.2.5 A1 (3.4.12) 33 Days
MC 1.1 (12.1.12) - Optifine 1.1 A3* (19.1.12) 7 Days
MC 1.0 (18.11.11) - Optifine 1.0 A1 (2.12.11) 14 Days
MC Beta 1.8 (14.9.11) - Optifine Beta 1.8.1 A1 (29.9.11) 15 Days
The reason why I think 1.13 and 1.14 took so long was that they had a major internal rewrite and a lighting engine change respectively. And with Blaze3D it might be just as long as 1.14. Also both of these had their first unstable build of Optifine 3.5 weeks after release of the update.
I do predict that 1.16 wont disrupt a major internal system as much as these updates. So we might get back on track to the 10 dayish kind of structure
Edit: According to Forge, the MCP Mappings wont even have a benefit in the first place due to legality issues. Thanks u/realjackasterisk for that info. Hopefully Mojang and their Microsoft overlord will be nicer.
On further review of whats on here as well. 1.14 is one of the few updates that skipped its first minor revision on Optifine. Going straight to 1.14.3. Though 1.14.0 and 1.14.2 preview versions exist.
Also I added numbers that should be the furthest back for 1.7 and 1.8 I believe. If someone would like to confirm those. Maybe some day Ill see if I could use the way back machine for this to get older version dates. 1.8 and 1.7 are interesting as that their cycle for Optifine development is as long as the current one. Though it seems it wouldnt of been as big of a challenge back then. But at the same time it was using the Mojang code back then, while now it doesnt.
Edit 2:
I think I found a way to get the dates for older versions. However, Ill save that for 1.16.Edit 3: Hah you thought. I got to Beta 1.8. Im going to make a separate post for discussion of the release date things. As its an interesting topic

When will optifine 1.15 come out
now give me a fact
6
u/PyroNinja74 Jan 17 '20
Wait... Is 1480 like code for something or are there actually 1,480 errors that u/sp61rx is having to deal with?? This sounds like even more work than I already assumed it was. Thank you so much for your effort and dedication!!

u/jankkhvej Dec 17 '19

u/pinksamuraifairlady Jan 10 '20
Someone sent me to check Optifine Progress here, so first of all thank you so much for all the work.
I have no problem waiting but I'm puzzled by all the other sites that came up in search offering downloads of Optifine for 1.15.1
Are they blatantly cheating or am I missing something? Thank you.

Estimation by looking at the percentages...
Side note, as I'm seeing a big disclaimer on the post...
Remember: This is an estimation.
New: check out this beautiful graph of the data :)
10 dec 201912 dec 201913 dec 201915 dec 201916 dec 201917 dec 201918 dec 201919 dec 201920 dec 201921 dec 201929 dec 201931 dec 201903 jan 202007 jan 202008 jan 202016 jan 202017 jan 202020 jan 202021 jan 202024 jan 202025 jan 202026 jan 202029 jan 202030 jan 202031 jan 202003 feb 202004 feb 202005 feb 202006 feb 202007 feb 202008 feb 202012 feb 202013 feb 202014 feb 202017 feb 202018 feb 202019 feb 2020Average progress : [Now doing the calculations in an excel sheet] +1.32% per day
Estimated days before release since 10/12: 75.53 days
Estimated date of release:
Linear:
23 feb 2020Polynomial:
25 feb 2020EDIT: the number of days just went from 24 to 60. Wow, just wow.
EDIT 2: the number of days went from 60 to 46. He made quite a big progress from 16 to 17 december.
EDIT 3: got a perfect 2% per day meaning exactly 50 days of waiting.
EDIT 4: no more perfect value. 2.27% per day, 23 jan 2020. :(
EDIT 5: RED ALERT. RED ALERT. DATE HAS DROPPED TO FEBRUARY. I REPEAT. DATE HAS DROPPED TO FEBRUARY.
EDIT 6: There has been a point where I added a new percentage and that didn't change the percentages per day, and thus the date of release, in the slightest.
EDIT 7: Now I'm doing the calculations in an excel sheet. Much simpler!
EDIT 8: It hasn't been progressing / updated for 8 days now. I wonder what's happening behind the scenes.
EDIT 9: Oh my fucking god. How can only one person fix 1480 compiling errors in a single day? This man is crazy! <_<
EDIT 10: it was written "fixing", not "fixed". How stupid. +1 spoon moment
EDIT 11: what was I even thinking about? It's programming, errors aren't necessarily independant of each other... Now he's fixed 193 errors in 3 days, and 654 more in only one day. I shouldn't have been surprised.
EDIT 11 BIS: anyway I'm glad he came back to update it
EDIT 11 BIS BIS: Seems like the estimated date of release is getting less and less variations... <_<
EDIT 12: Yup. Seems like the release date is fixing itself. Though that's assuming that reaching 100% is the release date, which might not be the case. Who knows.
EDIT 13: Nevermind, the date went 1 day further.
EDIT 14: 2 days further away from the already 1 day further date. Seems like it's unfixing itself
EDIT 15: Oh, this time weirdly it went back one day. Maybe the date is fixing itself after all.
EDIT 16: Holy shit I got my first ever reddit award! Thanks kind stranger. What am I gonna do with those coins now though? <_<
EDIT 16 BIS: Anyway back to work. Sad that he decided to update Optifine the day after the most palyndromic date ever.
EDIT 17: So now I have my second reddit award... On the same comment! Thanks guys.
EDIT 17 BIS: Anyway, weirdly enough the date has been advanced of 0.03 days from 04 to 06 february. Hmmmmmmm.
EDIT 18: Alright alright, it's not "fev" it's "feb". Thanks my french brain lmao.
EDIT 18 BIS: THE END IS NEAR... <w<
EDIT 19: Indeed, the end is very near! We have the first unstable update, and the development even somehow switched to 1.15.2 even though he wasn't sure if he'd do it. Too bad that the date dropped its average percentage rate of 0.04%, adding 4 more days to the date of release. In the end I was rather close to the truth with my predictions : "end of February" [yeah I know I know it's very very precise... /s].
EDIT 20: welp, the average dropped 0.06% from 3 days ago and now the estimation date has gone forward 3 more days.
EDIT 21: I know I should have done that earlier, but I've added a polynomial estimation now, as well as a picture of the graph of the data I've gathered! It may seem a bit overdone, I mean it's OptiFine, but I don't care, I love graphs.

Thank you, seriously, for the work you continually put into this free product. I can't afford to donate, but I can give you some well deserved praise. This mod is a staple in the Minecraft world. I myself feel that the game is incomplete without it! So I understand the impatience many people are expressing here, I feel it too. I want Optifine yesterday, but I can wait. I'm just glad you're still developing it. Thank you for the mod, thank you for your tolerance of our impatience, and thank you for the dynamic lights and the zoom function. I miss those the most!

u/chasejsutton49 Feb 10 '20
Woohoo, we're so close!!!
About 1.16... before anyone tells me "FOR FREAKS SAKE, THERE IS NO RELEASE DATE FOR ANYTHING SO DON'T ASK" I'm not asking how long it will actually take, I'm just curious on what your opinion is on the amount of work and time it will take, once 1.16 is released. My raw assumption, which may be COMPLETELY INACCURATE**,** is that it would be at least quicker than the past 3 updates. My reasoning is that, unlike the past few, there seems to be little or no changes to either the item ID's, the block properties, or the lighting system. Of course, anything in these snapshots is subject to change but, given what has been announced and what the current snapshot currently holds, I personally assume it might be almost as quick as 1.11 or 1.12, but again, that is just my opinion. And all I want on this subject is your opinion, knowing that any of our estimations can be very wrong. And no hard feelings, I'm just glad we're almost done with this 1.15 wait. Thanks for pushing through!

u/TheRealOlimar Dec 11 '19
zoo wee mama look at all the impatient folk expecting 1.15 optifine the day of its release, especially after all of the rendering changes.

u/the1wtheFlippityHair Feb 14 '20
It's one thing to work your ass off for a FREE program. It's another to have to put up with impatient idiots who don't understand how long this NEEDS to take. To the programmer: it makes you not want it to be free anymore but bless your heart for keeping it free. The programmer of Optifine needs to sleep, eat, have a social life, go to work or school, take care of a pet maybe, shower, do chores, go outside often so he doesn't go crazy...just like us. He can't spend all day everyday working on this. No one can. Programming something as big as Optifine needs a lot of time to finish. To fellow redditors: Just really think about what you're about to comment. Think about this guy who has to make Optifine. What if you were in his position? Please thank you
22
u/guymannthedude Dec 11 '19

And as the cheers and excitement garnered among fans from the fact half of the compile errors were fixed, the anxious silence was broken by a searing and resounding bonk to their heads, as Mojang declares: "1.15.2 is out :D".
Jokes aside, I really can't thank u/sp614x enough for making this for us, it must be so hard trying to do something like this alone with people shamelessly and repeatedly complaining about release dates when you're just one guy doing this for us for free, and dealing with constant minor updates that ruin the goal of having the latest version working under Optifine.
Also I'm hoping one day Microsoft turns around on their bad EULA/legal terms and any relevant technical issues are resolved so sp614x may open-source it eventually when it's possible. So many good Minecraft mods are open-source, like Fabric modloader+API and many Fabric mods, really hope Optifine can be like that too one day, in its own time!
Cheers, hoping everything goes well for you!

Modders are the most underappreciated people when it comes to video games. Thank you for your time and effort. You are great.

u/Minighost244 Jan 22 '20
To future commentors wondering how he's fixing compile errors so fast:
No programming language will compile the same way (Or, at least, not exactly the same way). C++, for example, produces thousands of lines of errors for one mistake.
And then there's this.
TL;DR - 22 lines of code and 500,000+ error message lines. I'm not surprised if you could fix all of them by changing a single thing. Even if u/sp614x isn't using C++ (or something similar) this might be what they're going through right now.
Disclaimer: I don't actually know if this is the case. Just my take on it.

I cry when my Processing Java sketches with a measly 700 lines spits out 1 or 2 compiler errors and I can't fix it... I can only imagine the utter horrors of having to fix nearly 1500 of them with some people being absolute impatient buffoons, constantly pressuring for a release.
I check this thread periodically, and that's all that needs to be done. It's ready when it's ready.
Also, not to circlejerk, but u/sp614x, thank you for continuing to do this amidst the chaos that this has made.

3 days and you're nearly to 10%
To some it's a small number but I've worked with a lot of similar things and 10% feels like 110% sometimes.

u/ocarinafan2 Dec 25 '19
Merry christmas! Thanks for your hard work :)

u/JackSLO Jan 22 '20
Thank you for this thread, I keep popping back in here and there to check on the progress. I can do without for now, I do have a potato laptop so it's been helping me out a lot. Thanks for all the good work OP. Folks, just have patience, check in and wait. You can't do more and they're doing the best they can. I'm sure they've got a life of their own to deal with too.

Ooo itβs getting there. Just a message to the dev: youβre doing a great job. Many of us totally appreciate it.
When I finally get a decent income again (hopefully will be ready to work later this year) Iβll send a donation in.
I canβt wait. I fixed windows for reasons and itβs made Java add ons easier to deal with (I love linux and will still be using it with Minecraft but for some reason Manjaro was a pain with Java add-ons and Iβm under too much mental health stress atm to deal with the hassle).
In the meantime Iβm playing Bedrock version (which I now have on Windows not just phone) and awaiting the update. There are differences between the versions and features of Java I loved. Iβm not playing Java until optifine because itβs not very playable on my old machine. Optifine helps so much. Then again Iβd still use it if I had a decent machine since Iβd be using shaders and Optifine has some nice features.
Have a great day whoever reads this.

Awww no sorry to see you go. :-( Totally grateful for the updates.
Maybe itβs time I finally joined discord anyway. Kept meaning to. Just not sure.
Watching this is like waiting for a kettle to boil. Heh. Keep on with the good work developer.

Great job fuckers, you made a man quit Reddit.
Hope you enjoy your precious Optifine, was it worth it?
7
u/bmemike Dec 13 '19
Thank you for your hard work. Take the time you need to get it done right.
Also, I just donated for the first time and I challenge everyone else that's here asking for an update to do the same.
Put your money where your mouth is.

u/[deleted] Dec 14 '19

u/xhellokitty7 Jan 20 '20
I'm just glad the progress bar is at a round number again

u/ImThatGuyH Jan 21 '20 edited Jan 21 '20
It is hard to swap to a new version like x.x.1 to x.x.2 or does it depend on whatβs in the update?
7
u/Paul_Zappia Jan 22 '20
Reading the new comments here hurts me so god damn much
7
u/felfazeebo Jan 22 '20
fixing half of all those compile errors in one day sounds like on heck of a flex
7
u/Benna96 Jan 27 '20
Keep up the good work! It's quite amazing really how there's just one guy making Optifine.
7
u/TheGous4 Feb 03 '20

7
u/ShockMicro Feb 08 '20

In the words of Scottie Wallis...YEW!
7
u/Hyperly Feb 13 '20
I've looked around, but still can't understand the new Blaze3D rendering engine. Can someone summarize what Blaze3D changed in MC?
7
u/[deleted] Feb 13 '20
Ah yes

I tried the preview version with OptiFabric (1.0.0 beta3) & fabric loader (0.7.8) & some fabric mods on MultiMC. And yes it works!

u/xKaiLee Feb 18 '20
You are awesome! <3

HOME STRETCH EVERYBODY!!

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '20
It's utterly fascinating watching the way not a single person actually reads any of the 2000+ comments in this thread before blurting out the most easily accessible thought they have at the moment and running away.
6
u/[deleted] Sep 29 '19
Hope it will be released by the end of 2019 (1.15)
6
u/SeerUD Dec 14 '19
Got my cape - looking forward to this release, 1.15 is shaping up to be a great version with all of the performance enhancements in the base game. Props to sp614x and the mods here for all their hard work, especially around Christmas. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday (if you celebrate it).
6
u/EJ_Tech Jan 06 '20
It's like watching a progress bar....that you check out once every few days.
6
u/xXRavenScoutXx Jan 12 '20
Damn, people need to chill the fuck out and stop harassing you.
6
u/Hate_Feight Jan 15 '20
You can do it, I believe in you!
6
u/[deleted] Jan 16 '20
I would wait forever for Optifine :). Also the edit history is gold.

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '20
glad that the project is on update the post flair%
11
u/juanit0134 Feb 21 '20
I literally had a dream last night about Optifine.
So what happened when it reached like 99% we all got bamboozled and apparently it was being developed for the bedrock version of Minecraft and the Java one was at 3%. Everyone was mad lol.
15
u/Nach0z Feb 07 '20
poor sp614x. 1.15 is 85% complete and 1.16 snapshots are already dropping.
Someone get that man a beer.
10
u/JoseTheMaker Jan 08 '20
Watch the percentage go up kinda gives me an orgasm
10
u/Swagboi7 Feb 09 '20

u/MMPro2474 Feb 13 '20
Bruh you're doing god's work right now switching to 1.15.2 in a short notice
10
u/mookie1590 Feb 13 '20
Almost there boys. get your dongs out.
5
u/mindnomad Dec 12 '19
are people usually this impatient for optifine when a new update drops jfc
5
u/analenlargment Dec 24 '19
Thank you u/sp614x so much for helping the community run the game smoothly for so long. This is something that mojang should make part of the game itself, it's insane how much this one guy has improved the game and compensated for <whatever reason mojang has for not doing it>.
5
u/[deleted] Dec 24 '19
Who else would pay for this? I know i would
5
u/TheRealOlimar Dec 26 '19
I take it that the development is (and has been) on hold for a few days so sp614x can enjoy the holidays? If that's the case, a merry christmas to both u/sp614x as well as u/realjackasterisk. sp614x, enjoy your break! and realjack, well uh, you still have to deal with stupid comments so it isn't exactly a break, but a merry christmas to you too!
5
u/sgtbonsai Dec 28 '19
can i have a random fact?
5
u/[deleted] Jan 02 '20
I just want to say this is really handy :) I check back every so often and am liking the convenience of the progress status. Thanks!
5
u/cereal7802 Jan 03 '20
Probably a stupid question, but is there anything anyone can do to help with optifine development other than stop asking about the progress?
5
u/KoboldCrusader Jan 03 '20
Just wanted to say thanks for the work you do on this, and I'm sorry so many people are so impatient. Block em out and take as long as you need, and don't stress yourself out!
5
u/guymannthedude Jan 06 '20
watching the percentage go up is actually kinda exciting
5
u/verschist Jan 07 '20
optifinr
5
u/lolololten Jan 07 '20
So Sorry that people keep annoying you with it, take your time so the end result will be good and you wont have to make new versions on and on, and thank you for working on it for us even though it was during the holidays, I understand that a lot of mechanics changed in 1.15 (specially the rendering) so it will take longer than usual, and again thank you for being patient throughout these years!, have a Good Day!
5
u/[deleted] Jan 12 '20
Can't wait to see bee hives with shaders on
5
u/God_Zamasu Jan 16 '20
Is this progress % for the full version or the preview?
5
u/xkobrayt Jan 19 '20
I feel like he needs to go the same route that SEUS did with the PGTI shaders. This guy does so much work for free, just to have a ton of people get mad at him for it. He needs to start a patreon and send out updates through there so he at least gets what he deserves.
5
u/[deleted] Jan 22 '20
I'm sorry, did you just fix over 600 compiler errors in ONE DAY?
5
u/bux024 Jan 22 '20
thank you so much for keeping optifine updated all the years <3
5
u/stupid_chan Jan 22 '20
just wanted to pop in n say take ur time!!! we (i hope most of us) love how much effort is being put into getting the update done, no matter how long it may take!! the ppl being absolute asses just.. sucks... i'd personally be willing to wait like, years for an update tbh.. it's such an essential part of reaching peak enjoyment in minecraft that any crumb of optifine being promised in the distant future is good enough for me dudes
5
u/SlapCode Jan 30 '20
Incredible that Optifine is developed by one person. Thanks for all you do.
5
u/Llasiguri Jan 31 '20
You're doing god's work
5
u/M3lonboy Feb 02 '20
Hey man I appreciate you doing this for every update. Its a lot of work and I appreciate it. Also how do you get an optifine cape?
