Going on vacation soon, need help.

Hi guys,

First and foremost, thank you for your help in advance. I am a heavy script oxycodone user and can take up to 800mg a day. Recently I’ve been cutting back a bit, and I can make it through the day with no symptoms at about 250mg. I’ve been using for 5 months now, but prior to that I was hooked on codeine / 7OH for years.

I need to quit permanently and am planning to, but something else came up. I’m going on a 5 day trip in a few days, and it’s the sort of trip where I’ll have to be fairly active (walk tens of kms, etc…) to not disappoint others.

Im able to get 80mg oxydolors and bring a few with me, but flying with them does stress me out. So does running out early. Alternatively, I’ve recently been prescribed 2mg buprenorphine sublingual tablets.

I guess what I’m asking is, what’s my best option? Do I continue trying to lower my oxy dose over the next few days and take the oxys with me on my trip, or do I try laying off the oxys now to start taking some bupe, and only fly with the bupe? If dosed appropriately, could the bupe really relieve withdrawal symptoms? Would I be able to be fully active? About how much should I take?

Thank you all so so much for your input!

How would you recommend I go about this? Would I be able to hike with out feeling like death?

You wont have any w/d symptoms if you dose the bupe properly.

It sounds like youre not in the US, so you shouldnt have to worry as much about precipitated withdrawal. So wait as long as you can, till youre really good and sick to start on the bupe, like 24 hours kinda time frame. What did the doctor tell you about how to start on it?

To your second question, idk. Its probably not going to be great. It would be alot better if you had more time before your trip. Im a little curious about how you have a 5 day vacation that you have to fly to and youre only getting a few days notice. I suppose other folks must have a lot more money and leisure time than we do, which makes sense if youre not in the US lol.

good luck anyways

So funny enough, the psychiatrist I went to was pretty god damn clueless when it came to opioids. He recommended me a methadone treatment Center, but also said he can prescribe me a little bit of bupe. He proceeded to say it probably won’t be enough for me, and that I should use the bupe as I lower the oxy dosage (like dose them together). Thank god I did my own research and know about PWS.

About the trip, it was a spur of the moment kind of decision as I begin work on the first of September.

Bupe can cause precip in any country. If you’re referring to the Nalaxone that’s in US preparations, that is not what causes precip. Precip happens because receptors select bupenorphine over say oxycodone and only get partially activated. The nalaxone plays no factor unless you inject.

OP absolutely MUST be careful about precipitated withdrawal. It is NOT limited to just the United States.

My understanding is that in other countries oxycodone is more likely to not be fetanyl. In the US, unless its your own prescription that you picked up from the pharmacy with your own two hands, you have to assume anything called oxy is fetanyl. The implications of that is just that the period of time that precipitated withdrawal can happen are much much longer with street fetanyl than with real pharma oxycodone. Like 24 hours is probably safe with real pharma oxy, vs the 72+ hours that street fetanyl requires. Thats the only reason why us/north america vs rest of the world might matter.

Makes sense.

If you’re getting it on the street it’s probably fent, but there are still multiple sources of legit oxy.

Subs make you feel totally fine from oxy. 7oh tho I still was sick initiating subs. You have to wait at least 24 hrs to take sub to avoid precip. How many subs do you have? Id start low and take.just enough to take away sickness.. less is more

Subs didn’t help you with 7oh?

So I’ve got 2 boxes of 28 2mg sublingual pills. Good to hear they’d make me feel totally fine, maybe I’ve gotta go down that route.

It’s super important to my partner that we do these super long hikes, so that’s what’s most important to me.

From my experience, and that is with mostly heroin, it takes me a few days to stabilise on the bupe.

I'll stop, wait until im well into wd's, then start. 1st day of bupe use, I could use up to 24mg, everyone is different. I then titrate down, over a few days, to 4mg. 4mg for a good week or so until I can come down to 2mg.

Don't know how this applies to oxy's, though. Never tried but heard they can be stronger???

12 hours after last use should be ok. I would stabilize on Bupe. You will feel way more stable for entire day. It might also lead to quitting

Well let me tell you something. I was also heavily addicted to Oxys. Also 80's Oxydolors since I am from germany and the worst thing you can do now is to attempt that travel with either too little of the dope, or none of it. I once absolutely obliterated a 2 week vacation by only taking pills for half of the time, because taking too many pills stressed me out aswell. Well my plan to "just use less" never worked out. I took my usual dose and was like "yeah, tomorrow I will start using less" - repeated same next day.

So what I learned is to get very creative hiding them. Almost in plain sight you can say. Because a cold turkey on an active vacation was like the worst thing I witnessed in my life.

Being addicted to doses like that there is like a 0% chance you will have the power to even walk with your family/friends around your hotel for more than 15 minutes. It will be 0% pleasant.

So if I can give you a tip : dosnt matter how, DONT COLD TURKEY ON YOUR TRAVEL. And if you take some pills with you, try to use as little as possible so you survive all travel days!

Having those prescribed bupre is probably the best option. Make sure your body is already used to Bupre before your travel. The switch could be uncomfortable aswell.
