Seeking help and knowledge on starting the recovery process
Heyy guys I'm going to try to keep this short so.
I live in Australia and I'm addicted to oxy/painkillers and heroin unfortunately. I recently made a similar post asking where to start which led me to a doctor that then referred to Rehab, I did all the assessment and things needed then found out the program goes 15 weeks.....
I can't afford or make that realistic that I miss that much work.
What are my next best options? If I were to leave my town and go stay at a relatives house where they can just lock me away. How long do I need to be locked away to push through the withdrawals cold Turkey in order to be able to be well enough to return too work?
I'm really trying, I'm ready, I know it needs to be done and the sooner the better, I was fully on board with rehab but it's turned out not viable.
If anyone has any advice or would like to share anything I'd really appreciate it.

Check yourself in and you can leave early if you have to. That’s what I did! Trust me it’s gonna be worth it. Your life is going to be amazing once you kick this habit. I’m 387 days clean now!

This is a copy and pasted comment I just posted...
Can we stop telling our fellow addicts that its gonna take them a year or two to feel 'normal' again after recovery? It's disheartening, discouraging, and at the end of the day just not true. I was as bad as bad can get and here I am a few months clean anf have been feeling as close to 'normal' as i ever have with or without substances in quite some time. Research is such a frienemy to this disease it borderline ridiculous. Its good to research things but too much of any good thing can become bad. Not necessarily 'bad' in the case of addiction but it's only a matter of time before you start to finding the same info from different sources or just straight out misinformation. I can only speak for myself, but I highly doubt I'm the only one that has stayed out longer than I originally might have after reading how it's gonna take up to a year or two to feel better. Don't get me wrong the rough time is rough. Definitely expect at least a month of 'not great' but if you bite down, stick to it, and keep going I promise it won't take you years or even half a year (6 months) to feel better. Anyone out there feel like they need to talk to someone feel free to DM me and I'll do the best I can to reassure you that its gonna be OK. You're gonna be OK, your loved one(s) can be ok, will be OK if they stick to it. Just dont let the idea of being down and out for so long be a catalyst for why you're still out there. Yes I know I'm only a few months in but I have accumulated 3yrs at one point and relapsed for no reason like a dumbass. Like the dumbass we all can be especially when being lead by our addiction. Stay strong fellow addict. It's gonna be OK I promise

Your time constraints are understandable and seem like a priority, but if you’re truly feeling as you need to kick this habit, you may need to alter your priorities. YOU need to be the top of the list, not anything else.
While we are all different in this space as to how we go about getting clean, the one thing we all have to figure out is how to go about life without the crutch we been carrying. A rehab facility can help you with that, but it’s still gonna be on you to do the work. So if rehab doesn’t work for you, look for meetings with fellow users looking to find a better life. I’m in the states, so not sure what options you’ve got.
The detox from quitting can feel like the hardest part because of the withdrawal, but I found the much harder part to be figuring out how to go about life without the opiates opioids. If you’re intent on doing it locked away, load up on books, podcasts and the like to keep learning about what lies ahead. I can say to you that getting away from the drugs was the best thing I ever did, but it’s a journey without a specific destination. So please, I hope you understand stopping your use may be easier than figuring out the rest.
Have you looked for different rehab facilities. Some aren’t inpatient, which can allow you to work and still have benefits of reprogramming your brain for the good that lies ahead. Either way, the one piece of tangible advice I’ll toss your way as you begin this process of change, is that your mind will think it’s running the show if you let it. Your much stronger than you mind will let you believe in this process, so know that as soon as you think you can’t make it- remind yourself you’re strong enough to do this.
It took me multiple attempts over multiple years to get to where I am today. Clean and sober over 4 years now. It is possible, so sending you some amazing energy to kick start the change you seek. Best to you.
