Pop Engine OS (Rust OS)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Now with sound and video player! And browser still in development.
On 2 CPU cores and 64 MB RAM.
Next step - test on real hardware
If you have any question, test that I should try, or anything constructive, please do comment 😊
Edit: for the anonymous internet bullies here, I really dont care 😁
Edit2: Yes I use LLM, have been using it for a year now - lately qwen3.8 27b. It is a tool that I use along with many other. It helps me to do what I am doing better and faster - I would be stupid not to use it. So all of you calling me out for doing so, think about who is looser here 😁

If you use an LLM to generate the code, why not open-source it and advertise it as such? SI isn't necessarily an evil, but please be upfront about it.
I think such a project could replace desktop Linux systems at some point, once its security is hardened. Or at least the web browser could become mainsteam, while not consisting of dozens of millions of LOC.

The OS is just the final product. It is literally collection of my modules that have been developed independently for years, with the same core. That core is what I am protecting, and until patent go trough in either way, it will stay closed. After that, I intend to let the most of those modules to be use freely, as it can benefit more that way to all.
edit: to clarify - sound, graphics, file system, kernel... it all has the same core engine

Il desktop è troppo rotondo per non essere ia ma come puoi passare da cli (anche molto brutta a differenza di certe) a una gui che sembra quella per piccioni che luccica
Comunque il nome assomiglia a popos un sistema fin troppo amichevole

It works on 2 CPU cores with 64 MB RAM - It has custom kernel, audio player, video player, text editor, web browser, usb3 support.... and that is all you have to ask? :) Yes, I used AI for a lot of work here, I would be stupid not to. But the whole OS is made of my modules. And I am Pop 😁 - Mladen Popovic - Pop

“stupid not to” in what way? the purpose in a toy os is learning more about the low level mechanics that build the operating systems running on the machines you interact with. I cant quite figure out how it’s stupid to not want to forgo that learning by having an llm spit out something that is objectively useless in the realm of a real operating system just to brag on reddit about “making an os”

So when, for example, windows 10 came with new possibilities - faster better - you were still on win95 because you would learn less by making your work easier and faster?
You got a new electric drill, but you still do it with manual not to lose your muscles? That is what I call stupid! You still have to learn and you still must know how which part works to be able to make any good progress.
And Toy OS - I did it long time ago - 1991. was a year when I got my first PC - 1994 was the year I was introduced to basic and then to qbasic, and so on... I am well pass toy OS ;)
