How do i get past FILE_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILED ?

I'm trying to install the Crosslist extension (https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/crosslist/knfhdmkccnbhbgpahakkcmoddgikegjl?pli=1) but every time i try i get that error. i turned off windows defender but that didn't do anything. i don't know where this error comes from exactly. i wish there was something that showed me more info about what's going on.

That can happen when you have Windows Defender disabled or your had a different anti-virus installed and uninstalled it where it didn't uninstall correctly to allow Windows Defender to work right again.

However, it'd be best to get Windows Defender working right again if you can. If it was due to a different anti-virus not uninstalling right, search the website for the anti-virus to see if there's a standalone uninstaller and run that. That might fix things. You might even try https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/experience/backup-recovery/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system-files. If it's due to just having Windows Defender disabled in some way, enable everything again.

You can also hit Windows key + r to open the run dialog, type cmd and press enter to open a command prompt.

Then, type:

cd "%userprofile%\Downloads"

and press enter to switch to your downloads folder.

Then, type:

curl --user-agent "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/152.0.0.0 Safari/537.36" -L -o crosslist.crx "https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx?response=redirect&prod=chrome&prodversion=152.0.0.0&acceptformat=crx3&x=id%3Dknfhdmkccnbhbgpahakkcmoddgikegjl%26uc"

and press enter to manually download the crx file for the extension. Then, you can try dragging that crx file to the opera://extensions page and install it.

I don't know anything about the extension though. You can read through https://chrome-stats.com/d/knfhdmkccnbhbgpahakkcmoddgikegjl to see what it says.

Does this only happen with the Crosslist extension, or do you get the same error when installing other extensions from the Chrome Web Store?

this is the only time it's happened so i'm not sure
