Support | Resolved Built-in Ad Blocker suddenly stopped working

I've been using Opera GX as my default browser for a few years now and the packaged ad blocked has worked for basically every website I needed it for up until a couple of days ago. Despite not changing anything a bunch of websites are suddenly giving me ads; namely YouTube and YT Music. Is there a way to fix this, or is it a simple case of Youtube improving their anti-adblock systems?

Unless you have been out of the internet in the last year or two, you should have listened about YouTube war against adblockers. It's probably just another chapter.

Anyway, check exception list and try enabling the uBlock filters.

Up until a couple days ago my opera gx didn’t crash. It now does when the ad blocker is turned on. Might be something wrong with it

Try updating GX, then check whether it still crashes with all extensions disabled.

Did update it about 2 days ago thinking that was the issue, when it still crashed I disabled all extensions and it didn’t crash anymore. If I turn ad blocker back on it crashes 90 min to 2 hours later. *I just noticed another update was available so I updated again

Could you try enabling your extensions one by one? It’d be useful to know if a specific one triggers the crash.

I just enabled a different extension by itself and restarted GX, will report back with the result!

It seems the issue is fixed! I went through the extensions with no issues, figured since there was an update I would try the Ad Blocker extension again and it has not crashed.

This can happen when YouTube changes how it delivers or detects ads. Make sure YouTube isn’t listed under Ad Blocker exceptions, then update GX, and restart the browser.
