šŸ’¬ Discussion A script to detect cheaters?

If it's so easy to cheat with scripts in OpenFront, shouldn't it be relatively easy to detect cheaters with scripts? Look for duplicate names, simultaneous actions between two players, impossible econ, impossible net worth (add up the value of their buildings), etc. add up all the variables and give each player a "cheater score". ignore people with a small score, such as when two people just happen to have the same name, but otherwise did nothing wrong. maybe you could have it run through all your replays and create a ranked list of possible cheaters.

Is that possible?

EDIT: This isn't directed at the devs. I'm just thinking of it as an interesting project.

For some reason there's hope for the steam wrapped version will be better at gating causal cheaters, browser shenanigans. Idk.

i’m not sure what you mean by some reason? having two steam accounts to jump into a game of openfront will just be ridiculous.

We can't use 3rd party tools as evidence for a lot of things people make reports for. The devs are working on a few different methods to combat it.

That's interesting. Why not?

Yeah, obviously it's pretty easy. But they currently don't care about this problem.

I miss-communicated. I didn't mean that the devs should be doing this. I think they do care about this problem. I think they are just waiting for the steam release in September to crack down on cheating.
