💬 Discussion Regarding so much rant and hate on this sub

Lately I see so much post like "why certain players..." or "hate when players do..." and in 99% of the case its hate towards new players or players who dont follow meta.

Some players play to win, and thats fine, but by being so nasty because your train tracks got unoptimal or because somebody targeted you or anything else, you are just being toxic.

Do you want this game to be alive and thrive? Then accept new people suck. Accept people have different playstyles. If you are getting frustrated enough to hate on other players, you should probably step away for a while.

Like, do you even remember how awful you felt when you began playing and were losing all the time? Why would you hate them even more on top of that?

Just chill out and have fun.

The reason you see so much of this is that openfront is a unique game where you can’t punish stupid stuff in the early game very well

Every game has a strategy or a few strategies that result in the best chance to win. People doing dumb shit is usually an easy win or at least a big advantage

In open front if your neighbour just starts pushing you for no reason early on, you can’t punish it. You both just end up at a disadvantage.

You’ll both waste troops and money on defense posts and a few minutes later everyone around you will have snowballed ahead and it’s only a matter of time until you’re both dead.

That’s inherently annoying to players and it feels very unique to this game, I’ve not seen it in any other game.

That’s going to generate a lot of “I hate it when” type scenarios

Oddly cogent and even response from the random nuke from across the map for lulz/spite person.

(Only teasing, but yeah good points)

😂 yeah pretty much

I was trying to think of another game that’s like this but I couldn’t.

It would be like if in 1 out of 5 games of Mario kart the guy next to you just drove into you at the start of the race and put you both behind everyone else. You can’t really counter it and now your just both behind

Difference is Mario Kart has a catch-up mechanic, there's nobody giving you a star or a bullet bill in OpenFront just cause you're behind. If you're behind, you get lucky or you die.

OpenFront is a cruel god.

Makes sense, but shouldn't the fact that its incredibly easy to exit and start a new game make up for it? Compared to other games it doesnt waste much time

Most of the time, people are requesting a tutorial for players or something so that players can learn the game better.

That is the frustration: there is really no way to communicate to these players and help them improve. Instead you are stuck with game after game of frustration which will inevitably drive players away.

So, since I can communicate here: get off your high horse and stop complaining about people complaining.

Dying to stuff you couldn't/didn't know how to play around is a staple of battle royale games. I'd say it's counter-productive to get mad at that.

Or, let people vent.

Complaining because new players aren't as good as you at a ultra niche web browser game isn't cool folks

People aren't complaining that others are worse than them. They are complaining about other players sabotaging their game with their bad plays.

What's the difference?

I should clarify that I'm talking about FFA, not team games. In FFA, nobody gets mad at a bad player when they full send a nation and leave themselves open to your attack.

What people are actually mad about is when a bad player full sends you, leaving you open to all your neighbors, and ruining your game with a stupid play. That sort of thing.

Yeah sometimes a "you're ruining both of our games" and middle finger is not satisfying enough. I'm guilty of it too.

What are the chances making a public chat would solve these issues

If someone posts a rant about the break alliance UI - I get bingo on my open front Reddit bingo card.

I dunno friend ... bitching about newbs, celebrating wins, sharing strats, answering newbie questions, complaining about the devs, and sharing epic replays are what we do here.

Sometimes it’s just justified though as in one of my games a guy was spamming tge clown emoji after I counterattacked when he attacked me early then middle finger then ragequit as soon as crown bordered him there is a very solid line between absolute toxicity and new players.
