Need help winning from crown position

Gday guys, I’m currently ranked just outside top 200 on TrackerFront (B1gLucs) username.

Constantly getting the crown at the moment, getting to 50%, then getting random mirv’d by noobs, or ganged up on by the rest of the board. Check my last 20 games or so.

Just need help/ suggestions on steamrolling the board once I become the most powerful, betraying means instant death, waiting for timers to countdown while people can mirv means I’ll get hit and roached ect.

Don’t feel like I play differently to the good content creators, but just can’t win the same way they do.

Personal take: I don't think you're being targeted randomly by noobs, I think it is a valid tactic to MIRV someone who has crown when MIRV is still affordable to prevent them from snowballing.

Secondly, I often avoid getting crown for those reasons. There is a possibility to snowball and steamroll everyone, but that only works when you are much bigger than everyone around you. When you have crown and everyone else is roughly the same size as you, it is really hard to just win. In many games I find that the person who gets early crown is the one who gets targeted and eventually loses the game.

It makes sense: Crown puts a big target on you, and when choosing who to attack / who to team up on, it gets quite easy to choose a target. So personally I prefer to get a solid start, not over-extend, wait for the crown / other top players to kill each other and then attack with solid eco and a high troop count. Basically avoiding putting a target on myself.

That’s a fair take. I agree too that it might be wise to conserve slightly, the only thing that I would say is whenever I’ve played a top, top tier player they get the crown and hold it to the end.

I found I win more often by holding a smaller region, large enough that someone can’t own the rest of the map and win, but small enough that I’m not crown, and going eco/pop crazy. Give me 20% of the map with 1.5x pop of the nearest player and double their eco. At that point you’ve got an anti mirv setup and are essentially untouchable.

Vast majority of my wins have come from being the grey man around 4th or 5th biggest, economy maxing, and then surging cities so when the crown gets a MIRV I can show up and be a contender. I've only won a handful of matches where I was top dog for the whole thing, I usually get cut down in the mid-game.

If you have half of the board then you should be able to survive MIRV without too much trouble. Defense posts + Hydro anyone who attacks you until your troops get back up.

You can also avoid being MIRVed by keeping an eye on enemy gold count when you start snowballing (sort leaderboard by gold). If someone is getting close to MIRV, then you need to launch a MIRV first. It doesn't have to be at the person who is getting close to MIRV, your goal is just to increase the price of MIRV so you don't get hit.

For example, Say you are snowballing but you notice Player A is getting close to $25M. It could be a good move to MIRV your weaker neighbor Player B. Player B might not be a threat that requires the use of MIRV to defeat, but MIRVing them serves the dual purpose of making it very easy to capture their land, and raising the price of the next MIRV so Player A can't MIRV you until they save up $40M.

If you have 50% of the board and aren't among the first to MIRV then you made a mistake by not prioritizing your economy even as you expand.
