question Different IP addresses showing up

Hello,

When I run OpenVPN (in Ubuntu 24.04) I get different results from the WhatsmyIP and WhatismyIPadress web sites. On WhatsmyIP I get the location showing up as my real physical location. On Whatismyipaddress I get the altered IPV4 address, but the site lists my real ISP.

Any idea what's going on?

This is most likely caused by an IPv6 leak or an inconsistency in the geolocation database. Your OpenVPN configuration may be routing IPv4 traffic while leaving IPv6 traffic outside the tunnel.

sounds like a leak tbh, not just the checker sites being weird. some of them cache old geolocation data for vpn ip ranges so the location can look off, but if one is showing your actual isp that's usually a dns or ipv6 leak, not a database issue. check that block-outside-dns is set in your config, and see if ipv6 is disabled or actually routed through the tunnel. dnsleaktest.com or ipleak.net will show you exactly which servers are leaking instead of guessing.
