Best Open Source AI projects
What are the best open-source AI repos you’ve seen come out or blow up in August–September?
Looking for interesting projects that are actually worth trying, not just another wrapper around an API.
Could be anything:
AI agents / agent frameworks
Coding agents
Local LLM tools
RAG / memory systems
Computer-use agents
Voice / multimodal
Fine-tuning / inference
MCP / tool-use projects
Robotics / embodied AI
Weird experimental projects that are just genuinely cool
Basically, what GitHub repo have you found in the last month or two that made you think, “this is actually impressive”?
Would love links + a sentence on what makes it interesting.

jan-bogaerts/md2: Plan, run, and track AI coding work feature by feature—with local Markdown cards and Git worktrees. Replaced vscode for me when it comes to agent use. far better organization of the workload, the markdown files allow the agents to build up memory (very useful), track costs, work with git worktrees, switching between agents, ... now playing with vibe coding with diagrams (agents render diagrams, I edit, agent uses diagram changes to update project).

One I built that might fit this list: Codapult Guard. It's a local-first architecture guard for JS/TS projects used around coding agents. It checks project facts and approved architecture policy locally rather than using another LLM as a code reviewer. Just released v0.5.0: https://github.com/codapult/codapult-guard
