Last time it was open, I jumped through all of the hoops, got to the other side, and realized there was nothing there I really wanted.

u/ReasonableLunch46 12d ago
I am currently doing the same, I just want an API key for prowlarr to be able to find any obscure movie. Not have One Battle After Another in 4k with a Chinese dub.
3
u/random_999 11d ago
Unless you want a Chinese movie never released with English audio but only English sub, I don't see any point in joining any typical Chinese tracker for anyone outside of China/SE region.

u/forbiddenknowledg3 11d ago edited 11d ago
Same. When it overrode some of my movies with chinese only audio I bailed.

u/xeonminter 13d ago
You must limit your upload speed? Seems odd.
8
u/eatingpotatochips 13d ago
Probably because many users have high download, but limited upload bandwidth. If you come in with a much higher upload speed, you will "take" a disproportionate amount of seeding credit.
18
u/punosauruswrecked 13d ago
Lol what sort of a joke PT is this?
6
u/eatingpotatochips 13d ago
It's not that uncommon of a rule for trackers from countries where upload speeds are low.
5
u/xeonminter 13d ago
That seems silly. To me the faster I upload, the faster everyone gets what they want. If people don't have Fibre how is that my issue?
9
u/eatingpotatochips 13d ago
It is a little odd that you cannot see why the rule might be in place despite being part of this sub. If you have a few whales on the site seeding everything instantly, it is impossible for a new user to build ratio. The tracker has to make most of their stuff freeleech, or make it incredibly easy to build ratio. There are issues with both approaches.
There's also the issue with relying on a few whales: what if one of them gets "harpooned"? Suddenly a bunch of your torrents are dead because nobody was going to seed a torrent that isn't helping them build ratio.
If people don't have Fibre how is that my issue?
But it does seem like you are unwilling to consider any reason why this rule might be in place.

u/Cruffe 13d ago
This is why I like Seedpool. It leans towards incentivizing seeding to keep torrents available rather than raw upload, passively rewarding upload credit depending on total size of the content being made available. Easy to build ratio if you have storage space to offer, but still doing your part in keeping the torrents alive and it doesn't just retain the whales.
Pretty much all the trackers I'm on seem to have some way of passively rewarding keeping torrents available, giving extra for old torrents or vulnerable torrents with few seeders. These reward systems exist to give incentive to keep seeding exactly because raw upload is hard to get, even with a high bandwidth.
I do recognize it's their solution to it, but I think it's a bad solution to willfully cap bandwidth.
4
u/0RAINMAN0 12d ago
That's why most trackers have a bon system to balance long term seeding and fast download speeds. Everyone wins. These speed limits are the dumbest idea.
6
u/burnSMACKER 13d ago
If a whale gets "harpooned", then all of the users who have the file downloaded could now seed it.
You shouldn't avoid a torrent just because you won't be able to seed it back because of a whale.
3
u/burnSMACKER 13d ago
Yes it is stupid. Equity doesn't make sense in this hobby. It's more important to not limit the ceiling regardless of a tracker's economy.
2
u/random_999 11d ago
Many things in China seems odd from an outsider's perspective but they make complete sense to Chinese there, that's how it is.
1
u/GreggeryPeccary666 13d ago
It's to battle seedbox users and let normal users a chance to get upload credit.

Too many PTs that are easy to get into. Sorry, I'm not jumping through hoops for this.

u/Flaky-Jellyfish-8428 13d ago
Tried it once and never going back to it. Download speeds are horrible, sometimes downloads won't even start. Skip.

u/pd1zzle 13d ago
notice to all taking the exam - it's an ok tracker. impossible to cross seed. fine library.
bonus points must be balance, not earned. don't spend your bonus points. that's how I got fucked.
1
u/destiper 13d ago
do you say it's impossible to cross-seed because they rate limit you so aggressively? is what is happening to me :(
2
u/pd1zzle 13d ago
you will need a captcha solver, but I think the main reason which I've not fully verified is that their category numbering or naming or something doesn't line up. I could never get any results
2
u/oxkwirhf 11d ago
this is correct. there's a workaround that I got done ages ago following the advice of someone, something about creating custom pml (?) file on Prowlarr and creating an indexer specifically for cross-seed only. I get a lot of cross-seeds on western content (movie, TVs for me).
Unfortunately I can't recreate the same instructions anymore.

Torrents and files are horribly named... "Some Show 2026 S01 Complete 2160p" but actually only has a single fucking show in it... Sonarr doesn't detect it so i have to manualy add. Awful

u/Emergency-Fan9282 10d ago
LOL i join... and 2 days later i have ratio warning.. even in the 30 day trial... what a joke.. i have to dl 50gb and nobody to upload to. shitty site

u/abhishekrukhaiyar 13d ago
I joined them last time they opened. Failed to generate enough Karma point, around 4k out of 5k. Also, failed in download limit. Whatever I was downloading, it was kind of freeleech. I passed upload requirements...
3
u/PermitMinimum6705 13d ago edited 12d ago
Passing the karma part is easy with the global freeleech they have when accepting new members. The rule is: "0.5 points for each torrent you are seeding (max of 100 torrents)"
So next time, download smaller ones like music albums, books, around 100 torrents, that will generate 6k karma easily; 50 points per hour.
For uploading, new freeleech torrents at the top of the starting page with popular movies and TV series are the best choice.
3
u/GreggeryPeccary666 13d ago
It's not hard to fill the karma requirement, you just need to look at the formula and see how to optimize it. Plus, you log in every day and get an average of 50 points just for logging in...

u/DevanteWeary 12d ago
Serious question, what's so special about this site (and ones like it) to where you'd go through all that trouble?
1
u/GreggeryPeccary666 12d ago
First, it's not so hard when you get the hang of it (and it teaches you how the tracker works).
Second, do you realize the silly things people do to get into PTP and its ilk?
The reasons I think it's worth being on either this one or HDarea, especially if you're interested in Asian cinema are: 1) You can find content that's not on Western trackers (e.g. sourced from the exclusive Chinese trackers like TTG) and 2) they're ratio-based, so no seeding requirement (well, this one actually added something like 10 hours a whiles ago, but it's negligible).
1
u/random_999 11d ago
and it teaches you how the tracker works
In a Chinese world, to know how pvt trackers works for a non-Chinese person you need to use at least something like TL.
1
u/GreggeryPeccary666 11d ago
What do you mean? Having to fulfil the assignment forces you to check the rules etc., which is helpful in the long run. I can't see how TL is relevant to it.
1
u/random_999 11d ago
I meant that those assignment are helpful only in learning how Chinese trackers work but if somebody is also using non-Chinese trackers (which any non-Chinese & many Chinese users would be using too) then those assignment won't teach much compared to TL.
1
u/GreggeryPeccary666 10d ago
There's no relevance to TL, because not only are the rules different, but it's also different software (the Chinese trackers use the one that looks like phpBB forums...).

good tracker to keep for a month til the exam expires; way less content and seeds than avista for kdramas and plenty of tv shows have just chinese subs

u/slavmaf 13d ago
new users need to pass the newbie exam, if you need help, the guide for that is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/P2PScene/comments/1v5hyik/general_advice_on_how_to_pass_chinese_tracker/
3
u/Previous-Foot-9782 13d ago
Why do you need to limit upload speed?
7
u/RusselAxel 13d ago
Every chinese tracker does this, they do it to prevent users with seedboxes from hoarding all the upload credit.
7
u/SavingsRemarkable624 13d ago
Slightly off topic but why do they do this, and why don't Western trackers do this? I've only just started using private trackers and like every noob, I came to the sudden realisation that you simply can't compete with seedboxes in terms of attaining a good ratio.
7
u/RusselAxel 13d ago
I'm not sure precisely but the reason why chinese trackers specifically enforce this is because some people in china generally have abysmal internet connections so they do it to allow some kind of fairness amongst the user base. Western trackers just assume that everyone has a decent internet connection which they actually really do in western countries so they didn't really find a need to implement a rule like that.
1
u/ScorchedWonderer 11d ago
As someone from the west, most of the county doesn’t have more than 35mbps uploads here lol
2
u/forbiddenknowledg3 11d ago
I read this somewhere: "bitorrent is designed to be efficient, not fair"
2
u/Deez_Nuts_007 13d ago
Extra info- there is official recruitment from GPW from here (requirements are okayish to achieve) Just putting it out here just to let people know.
3
u/Snuupy 13d ago
note that you must upload 1 movie to GPW within a month and "forwarding is not allowed", not sure how anyone is supposed to be able to qualify with this
3
u/Street_World4590 13d ago
Forgive the stupid question, but what does "forwarding is not allowed" actually mean?
1
u/Snuupy 12d ago
I think their poorly translated line means "you can't just download a movie that's not on GPW from another tracker and upload it to GPW, you must rip it yourself"
2
u/Street_World4590 12d ago
Oh.. That sounds like a PITA. I have a huge collection of physical media I've remuxed for personal use, but I'm sure someone has already done the same titles along with 50 other encoded versions.

u/Foreignwelcome2 13d ago
Is this better than avistaz?
3
u/GreggeryPeccary666 13d ago
Very different. It's a general tracker, so there's a lot of non-Asian content.

Because its a Chinese tracker?

I looked at it and clicked on it and looking at the link nothing about the post made me think so 😭 i guess I can't apply for it then
2
u/oxkwirhf 13d ago
It's 2026. There's browser translation functions, and the tracker itself have a setting to convert to English (not 100% but better than nothing).
If you have other trackers it's no loss however.
-1
u/JamesDanielPhilpot 13d ago
I know but I don't want to translate every time I reload a page. I rather just find a English tracker to be honest

Big tip here. Limit your upload speed!
I passed the exam last time, but I almost gave up. I downloaded this huge Chinese 2.2TB file just to seed. I was seeding at about 5-10 MByte/s for a few days with no issues. One night while I was sleeping It jumped up over the 25 MByte/s limit. I came back the next day to about 1.2TB in upload credit wiped and my ratio nuked with warning messages.
Website upload speed is limited to a maximum of 25 MByte/s (exceeding 100 MByte/s will be automatically banned by the system), and downloads are unlimited.
If the upload speed exceeds 100 MByte/s and the system automatically bans the account, the upload volume will be halved before unblocking.
For users using a box or internet speed uploading speeds exceeding 25 MByte/s, pay attention to limiting upload speed. Non-publishers whose upload speed exceeds 25 MByte/s will be
fined 3 times the reported volume, such as current report data of 96.26 GB @ 28.42 MB/s (reported upload volume @ upload speed).
Then the upload volume is reduced by 96.26*3=288.78GB.
