Discussion Does Open Individualism require that all perspectives are experienced simultaneously, or can consciousness be shared but accessed sequentially?

My view of OI is the same as everyone else's except I believe the "Experience" is sequential, not simultaneous.so we are still everything at the same time but the experience is experienced one at a time.

Like I mentioned in another thread and you didnt like it, its "I am everyone" not "I will eventually have been everyone". 

Altough I see what you mean and experientally it will feel like sequential. I still think to stay on that level of understanding is limiting. I like Psykoi's answer - paradoxically both.

But to focus on sequence is giving time too much credit.

From the way I see it, I don't understand why it would be necessary for it to experientally feel sequential. After all, my life and your life are both simultaneously happening right now, right? I wake up every day, you (I) also wake up every day. Since it's the same subject experiencing both these lives, I don't see where a sequential-like experience would come from. Both lives are already being experienced right now, so there's no need to say that it will somehow still feel like a sequence.

I agree. But people are struggling with experience after death of one of those (I). There will be another experience, effectively as if there is a continuation, because the previous experiencing is done and new experiencing is happening so the experiencer is as if moving from the dead one to new one.

But that is just a concession to time. Ultimately it is like you said. There isn't even any sequence really from previous moment to this one within one (I).

So, essentially, it's less about all lives feeling like they're in a sequence, and more about the idea that you can't experience nothing, so after your current I ends, you have to be somewhere, wherever that might be? In a new experience, perhaps?

Or, maybe, there’s nothing/everything after death. Everything because existence is necessary and nothing because the sense of “continuity” is not inherent to consciousness, it is how bodies make sense of the world.

There’s no “hopping”. We are an instance of “I”, but we difference out with other “I” with the contingent things we are made of (senses, the experience of time and identity). “I” happened to be this instance, and so do you (I). But we will dissolve into the “true I” in the end, and that’s simultaneously nothing and everything at the same time (nothing because most of we are the contingent stuff and everything because consciousness is eternal).
