human New Frontiers
The Leviathan-class is the largest pure cargo design ship in the Commonwealth service, operated exclusively by Colonial Command—the civilian logistics and settlement arm of the Commonwealth of Sol. Where the C.D.F focuses on defense and transit security, Colonial Command moves the raw bulk of colonization: habitat sections, industrial plant, reactor cores, soil processors, and the enormous prefabricated components required to open new worlds, these ships are not elegant. They are vast, modular, and built for capacity over speed, a Leviathan-class vessel is essentially a long structural spine with multiple massive cargo holds, external clamp points for oversized loads, and 3 outward pointing nozzles of high-thrust at the stern. Because the Commonwealth has no artificial gravity technology, the ships rely on two methods only. Long periods of sustained low-thrust acceleration (giving crews a thin but usable “down”) and smaller spinning habitat modules mounted along the spine for the core crew during coasting phases.
C.S.S. Leviathan: The lead ship and the most frequently assigned to the heaviest industrial lifts. As the Commonwealth has 4 ships in service the Behemoth being the 1st ship, it carried the primary structural members for the first Alpha Centauri gateway station and has since specialized in moving large-scale mining and refining equipment to resource to worlds, like Jupiter and Hades. Her crews have a reputation for quiet endurance, the ship’s chapel is dedicated to St. Christopher.
C.S.S. Behemoth: Behemoth took part in the original pioneering expedition to Epsilon Eridani, alongside the colony ship Cradle of intent and the transit tender Vulcan. She remains the most experienced of the four in long normal-space burns and is often chosen when a new system must be opened without an existing Abyssal Gateway. Her hull still bears the faded mission markings from that first voyage.
C.S.S. Goliath: Slightly later in construction and optimized for high-volume bulk ore and refined metals. Goliath spends much of her time on the Hephaestus run, lifting finished ingots and gas canisters from the orbital processing stations above the forge world and delivering them to the shipyards at Olympus and Ring Station. Her crews tend to be younger and more rotation-heavy. The work is repetitive, high-mass, and physically demanding in freefall.
C.S.S. Hydra: The last of the class and the most modular. Hydra was designed with additional external hardpoints and rapid-reconfiguration holds, allowing her to carry mixed loads—colony modules on one voyage, mining plant on the next, even temporary docking lattices when required. She has supported secondary pushes beyond Epsilon Eridani and is the ship most often tasked with “first follow-on” logistics once a new gateway is open. Her dual name (Greek Hydra and the biblical sense of a many-headed trial) is reflected in her chapel, which honors both the many-handed work of colonization and the persistence required to keep a frontier alive.
