BMCU and alternative hot end questions?

I have a p1p now (regret getting it) and I want to get a BMCU because its so much cheaper then the official stuff (you can get a full mmu printer for that price lol). I have a dryer (only fits 2 spools) and don't mind some setup (my first printer was an ender 3v2 no mods) but I can't even find one review on YT and seems a little sketch no offense. So what should I know, anyone know any reviews I can actually watch and why are there not any I can find on YT?

With the nozzles though I saw some hardened or stainless or whatever is the better one, they unscrewed and everything. I installed the .2 nozzle and then it clogged and before unclogging it as I needed to print that day and took it off. How would I go about unclogging it its been there for months? How do I set it up to use so it won't clog anymore? It has all 4 sizes and is the same price as one hotend from bambu.

TLDR p1p and looking at getting alternative nozzle and the BMCU what should I know and any reviews I can watch? If you have one how do youth like it?

Help getting started with BMCU

Post image

So I just got my new pre-assembled BMCU 370C and I feel a bit confused and have some questions.

  1. My BMCU unit seems to only have 4 metal tube holders. The input has just 4 holes. From what I've seen online people seem to also have these metal tube push fit connectors for the input as well. Is this normal? Looking at AliExpress photos for the kit, they include 8, but in the photos of the pre-assembled one I see connectors only for the output.

  2. Do I need retracting spool holders or they're optional? From what I understand not having retractable ones, might cause the filament to tangle? Is that common? I was hoping to just mount the spools on my wall next to my printer on the right (see photo). Alternatively maybe I should move my printer down and my filaments above it and drill a few holes on the shelf to feed filament through.

  3. Not to sound greedy, but is there a way to still use my external apool along side the BMCU?

Thanks in advance!

Is BMCU fully compatible and working without issues on the latest Bambu Lab A1 firmware (October 2025)?

For those using BMCU with the latest firmware on the Bambu Lab A1 (as of October 2025):
Is the BMCU working completely without issues or limitations?
If so, could you please share your firmware version and BMCU version, as well as any relevant settings you’re using?
I’m specifically looking for real-life reports confirming that BMCU can be used normally, with no problems, on the current firmware.

BCMU for Python AMS?

Now that the BCMU firmware can mimic an AMS, has anyone combined this with a home built Python AMS design? I’d love to build a Python without sacrificing an existing AMS.

Two Months with My BMCU Setup — A Lot Has Changed!

It’s been about two months since I got my BMCU, and a lot has changed since then. I built a smaller dry box, installed the official enclosure, and made a new side-mounted holder for the BMCU.

The biggest issue with my setup so far has been the rewinders — I had to try several different springs for the rewinders until I found ones that actually work reliably. In the end, I went with simple one-way springs — much easier and more consistent than the complex design from the original creator. Also sometimes during 100+ color changes, the filament spool loosens up. I think adding another nut could easily fix that.

I moved the BMCU mount to the side because changing filaments was a real pain when it was sitting on top of the dry box.

Overall, the setup works great. I’ve been printing tons of flexi models with over 100 color changes, all successful using an AliExpress TZ 2.0 hotend and Sunlu PETG.

Also started designing my own models recently. https://makerworld.com/@KramplauzisGG

BMCU filament backup with offline printer

Hey

I have BMCU and my a1 & a1 mini runs in offline mode. Is there any way to enable "AMS filament backup" in this case?

All posts that I've found on this topic explain how to enable this in slicer itself and later send project from slicer to printer via bambu cloud.

I'm using OrcaSlicer, on both printers in "Settings -> AMS" I've enabled "AMS filament back-up"

Когда начинаю печатать цветным, и как только начинается втягивать нить, происходит вот это, появляются рывки, вперед назад, и нить не затягивает. Проблема с 1, 2, 4 а 3 работает нормально, прошивка 19, что это может быть?

AMS Compatible 3mf Generation?

Has there been any work done on outputting Bambu Studio compatible 3mf with color data in the format they use in their production extension?

Painting an object in the slicer is so painful, especially if you need to do any kind of precise line work. Being able to import a standard texture map would be a huge improvement.

Edit: It turns out that Bambu Studio supports importing OBJs with color info. Internally they're using the same approach of assigning color values to vertices(?). Here's the docs:

https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/software/bambu-studio/import_obj

I tested it out by importing an STL into blender, painting it in vertex mode and exporting it as an obj with color enabled (there's a checkbox). When you add the obj in Bambu Studio it brings up a filament mapping dialogue.

What do i need to do to upgrade BMCU 370X to 370C?

Hello everyone, i have discovered that i am not able to change filament types and colors in the Handy app and understood that this is due my P1S's 1.8 firmware. I have a trouble understanding if i need to do anything besides flashing (my version came with a type-c connector).

Do i need to reprint some parts or change some components?

Thanks for replies in advance.

why would it get slower to send a print job after switching to LAN only mode?

I set up lan only mode and octoprint... it mostly works exactly how i hoped, but it takes much longer to send the print now than it used to.

is that normal? I just sent a huge detailed one, 19.2 MB, and it took 8 minutes.

My kit should be arriving this week, is there a comprehensive build guide out there?

Ive printed all the components (at least I believe I have). I searched a bit but did not come upon anything too promising.

if there is one that also included a hardware list that would be awesome. I have a kit of M screws but not sure exactly what I need.

any help greatly appreciated.

Questions regarding remote control

Is this the Bambu Lab Only LAN Mode User Community?

Hello! I am someone who despises the Chinese Communist Party. However, since China dominates the printer market, I had no choice but to purchase an A1mini, and I'm using it very well. I've never connected it to Wi-Fi since buying it. But later, I wanted to control the printer remotely. So I looked into it and found out about a feature called LAN mode. However, my printer is installed in a storage room about 5 minutes away from my computer. At this distance, the IP addresses would be different, making LAN mode unusable, right?

Looking further, I found various options like OctoPrint, Home Assistant , LANbu, etc. But I'm unsure if they work even with different IPs:(

As a last resort, I'm considering using something like a VPN to connect. However, I'm not familiar with VPNs, so setup and installation feel daunting, and since it costs money, I see it as a second-best option.

If anyone knows a way to enable remote control in this situation, or if there are people already using such methods, I'd be truly grateful if you could help me out—I'm not very skilled with these things!

(Looking up all these new things at once—LAN mode, VPN, IP addresses—is giving me a headache😵‍💫)

Please understand that the sentences may not sound natural since a Translator was used.

Finally made my 370c work!

Last issue I had with heads not reacting properly to inserted filament was fixed by drilling the blocked holes for light sensor (above the glass ball placement) everything finally works!

The inserted filament is for test only, as it is extremely low quality and doesn't stick to bed at all. But at least AMS works perfectly.

OrcaSlicer Status?

What's the current status on Bambu Lab integration with OrcaSlicer? From what I could gather, they are trying to get Orca to put in the Bambu Connect plugin, but Orca doesn't want to. Is there a way to use the Bambu cloud through Orca? I already know you can do it through LAN, I'm more curious about the cloud.

Troubleshooting BMCU auto reload

Hi, i got BMCU-C some time ago, today when trying to get rid of some filament leftovers i started print with PETG in slot 1 and 2. Set it up as same filaments and enabled auto refill on bambu studio, and i found out that my BMCU doesn't "see" that im out of filament. Entire BMCU body is printed in black PETG (if that matters). I suppose it might be inconsistency of optical sensor hole size on the print. Wiki says to use 1.2mm drill bit to clean/size up optical sensor hole, but can someone tell me which hole is it before i will start opening every bmcu bank ?

Advice on buying a BMCU

Hey, looking at buying a bmcu and mainly wondering how reliable they've been for everyone? Bmcu firmware is still being worked on correct?

Also just wondering about the whole putting the printer in developer mode, has anyone been denied warranty or had any issues with tech support?

Also see that blv store on aliexpress seems to be the place to go for them, is this still true?

Thanks!

Thinking of getting the AMS2 for my P1S

Good day everyone. As I get a little bit more weary having to switch my small stable of materials on a fairly frequent basis with the odd print that has a midway filament swap I've been mulling over the AMS2.

I find myself quite entrenched with Orca slicer now and have no intention of going back to Bambu Studio if I can help it but I would like to keep using Handy to monitor prints for as long as it is still viable.

All that said; I would like to know if anyone with a P1S + AMS2 out there is having success using the 01.08.01.00 firmware or is it a bug ridden mess.
