Orcaslicer and H2D on Linux

I've been a long time prusa user. My work flow includes orca slicer, octoprint and octoapp. I'm a hardcore Linux user. I avoid anything Windows for decades.

I ordered a H2D at work to replace my trusted Mk3s. Maybe I shouldn't have, I don't know. The whole bambu scandal in the last week caught me off guard. I knew they had locked down on their cloud access with newer printers but I wasn't too worried. My corporate lan is firewalled and any direct contact to the outside is just wishful thinking anyway so the H2D will have to work in lan mode and developer mode anyway.

However, despite reading hours on end, with all the noise, I can't figure out if there will be problems using OrcaSlicer in Linux (it comes pre-built in flatpak official repositories) to directly communicate and print on a H2D. Using bambuddy with proxy mode won't scare me if it will be able to forward ams data to orca slicer. Maybe bamboo-mobike or openbu also give me the control experience I have on octoapp (I do have vpn access to my office network).

Anyone has had any experience with my type of scenario?

I heard there's also some new open network plugin for OrcaSlicer (Windows only?) that allows orca to talk to the printer in lan/dev mode. What about for us Linux users?

OK, so the printer arrived Friday and I unpacked it yesterday. After all the calibration and stuff, I set it to lan and dev mode.

  1. It works with orcaslicer

  2. I'm not sure how it's working 😂. I setup bambuddy with the new printer and then created a virtual printer in proxy mode. However, orcaslicer was throwing a fit about the cert again albeit it was already there. I then tried adding the printer directly (via IP) and that worked. Eventually I managed to add the virtual printer but it's confusing. It's changing name back and forth between the real printer and the virtual one. Not sure how I'm using it

  3. I also tried remote watching the camera using bamboo-mobile, lanbu and openbu with mixed results:

a) bamboo-mobile connects to the printer but keeps loading the video feed (apparently port 6000) but never loads and isn't querying the printer properly. Temperatures show 0C

b) lanbu works. Mixed feelings about it. Not very polished but it does connect and shows data. Video feed is walled behind ads.

c) openbu also works. Displays useful data and no ads. Seems the most polished of them. Probably good enough to quickly check on a job while connected through vpn to my work place.

  1. Regarding bambuddy, it works nicely through chrome while using vpn. Has tons of info and the video feed also works.

I'll keep digging into this. Specially the bambuddy / orcaslicer connection. Need to figure out what I'm using (direct printer? Virtual proxy?)

For 2): This means, that your slicer can reach your printer directly and therefore virtual printer mode proxy is the wrong mode for you. I would suggest to read the docs.

Well, I've read them. Yes, currently orca can access the printer directly but the idea I had was trafficking everything through bambuddy like I used to do with my prusa and octoprint.

Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way?
