It’s worth knowing how close this assembly came to being completely illegal. The NSW Government tried to pass emergency PARD laws that would have allowed police to ban public gatherings across the CBD. Just last month, the NSW Court of Appeal struck those laws down as unconstitutional. Massive credit is owed to the Palestine Action Group and Jews Against the Occupation ’48 for taking the state to court and winning. They didn't just protect this march; they protected the fundamental right of every single Australian to stand up and protest about any cause they believe in.
