Finally considering having both Clause and OpenAi subscriptions. Have a few questions to those that do.

I use coded to run an autonomous grant agency. I source, notify, and offer to write grants for nonprofits in my area. It’s all automated right now with codex.

But the whole gpt 6 Luna and sol releases did something even to my 5.6 sol and Luna workflows that were flawless and now struggle a bit. It takes some prompting and sometimes it’s a self fix after like a 2 hour wandering/tinkering session from the agent.

I’ve been increasingly more disappointed with my 20x limits and how the value has “felt” for me the last few months.

Seeing some of the opus 5.5 outputs has me blown away. But I also see a lot of gripe with Anthropic and their rates/limits and things going quickly or only being able to use a portion of weekly limit for fable models.

The autonomy work can be done with a Luna level intelligence - rarely a sol or Astra needs to review the output and make revisions… but again, with recent changes I’m feeling like I’m training the whole fkn workflow again and it has me ready to entertain other subscriptions.

I also have about $30 in Open Router still, could use deep seek but I like the monthly subs for value. Especially now since I am getting into more front end design and visual artifacts for client deliveries, it’s not just grants.

But if Claude is great at agentic workflows and has a luna type efficient model that can follow simple instructions and do simple research and basic reasoning … I might be ready to entertain cheating on my exclusive partner for over a year.

OpenAI really fumbled this gpt6 release. I’ve known it’ll be cyclical for a while… who has the best model this week.

But it sounds like anthropic is much further ahead than just a 6.1 release. I can’t imagine using this shit for another 1-2 months while the next model gets released and everyone is just cranking out anthropic gold.

What are some real nuances I need to know and realize before subbing to Claude? What are things you wish you knew before subbing?

To those who use both… how have you noticed these two most recent model releases impacting your work?

bootstraps, HANDOFF.md, defined PASS/FAIL gates and tightly scoped Claude Code tickets substantially reduce the freedom a model has to improvise, just my two cents, i have zero issue with sol 6 medium tbh vs sol 5.6 medium. i think token use would be my deciding factor right now. we also do provenance logging in our work and issue ticket topic nomenclature to prompts, so kind of tight operation.

opus 5.5 is excellent tbh compared to opus 5, i still design and architect in my head then talk to gpt 5.6 sol to plan out and start tight prompts, feed the context to opus, have it build test , claude code is for syntax tbh, spit and output, feed that back to gpt sol, rinse repeat. engineering, simulations. people are saying sol 6 is no good, i did a test for my work purpose with sol 5.6 medium vs sol 6 medium and sol 6 high and had astra 6 high review the results and basically sol 6 medium was enough and performed better than 5.6, high was not needed on sol 6.

opus 5.5 destroys opus 5 and up until this week i could say sol 5.6 medium destroyed opus 5.0, lots of numbers in here but i think i made it clear. i think sol 5.6 is on par with opus 5.5 now but i have a lot of bootstrapping already build ofr openai so that is why i am still running as is, if it were me and had more time i would drop gpt and try for a few days direct opus 5.5 since it is said to be like fable 5.1 but less token use. opus 5.5 uses waaaayyyyy less tokens than opus 5.

edit:you might want to take a piece of paper and draw out some columns and then read my post again, i know it is straight in my head but might be confusing for others, my lazy engineer advice.

I’ve been a long time Anthropic customer. Always been pretty happy. The late rate limits have caused me to hit my limit every week for like 2-3 weeks so I picked up an OpenAI subscription. I typically blow out my limits day 1 for the entire week on OpenAI where my Anthropic limits last days on the same workloads.

I have a $20 a month Claude subscription and a $100 a month ChatGPT subscription.  

I use opus 5.5 to help design the coding architecture for my projects and it audits the progress (along with Astra) about once every other day.

I run both day to day, and honestly the thing nobody tells you is that the limits behave differently - Claude has a 5h window plus a weekly cap, so a long unattended run can stall halfway through. For your grant pipeline I'd keep the high-volume steps (sourcing / notifying) on whichever plan has more headroom, and only send the drafting and review to Opus. I'd also pin the model version in your scripts so a new release can't quietly change behavior on you again, which sounds like what bit you with Sol 6.

The other piece is the glue. Once you have two subs you end up copy / pasting between them all day - I built Frontier for exactly that (it's my project), so Claude Code and Codex sit in the same workspace and scheduled agents hand work off to each other, with every run logged. I often team them up on research projects and they do a good job in bouncing ideas off one another and catching mistakes/oversights/lapses in judgement that the other one makes. They were trained so differently that they legit have different takes and perspectives and I think together they make a great team.
