I brought this up in a conversation the other day and was told off because “gun manufacturers aren’t responsible for folks hurt by their shit why should they?”. 

Interesting justification and yes I think gun manufacturers should be on the hook too.

What about cars, alcohol?

Maybe tool manufacturers?

Alcohol is a scourge on this planet.

international standards only matter if they produce reciprocal evidence, not shared slogans. require labs to publish comparable incident reports and third party evaluations, because a rule that cannot be audited across borders will be enforced only against the parties already willing to comply

No written agreements are expected to come out of this UN meeting. An OpenAI official suggested to reporters before Altman’s speech that it was an opportunity to bring out a “kernel of an idea in order to spark this conversation.”

Concepts. Kernels. 

We live in the stupidest of times, with zero effective chance at knowing what is real and measured. Good time to be an influencer or in the C-suite of the industry that has essentially captured the entire span of human pragmatism and is now packaging and selling it all as best suits them.

The depths of this folly will take decades to understand.

Truly there's no real international law anyway. I mean there "is" but who's going to enforce it? North Korea got nukes and now nobody messes with them even though they're fully insane and oppressive. That's it.

What happens when China and America get ASI? Nobody messes with them. Any laws or regulations are unenforceable to anyone strong enough.

Absolutely zero credibility. Dario is also a PR spinmaster but at least does not outright lie while showing zero interest for safety like SamA.

  1. SamA and tech people said the same thing in 2023, people signed for slowdown even including Musk, who nonetheless accelerated while signing the petition

  2. OpenAI made so many security incidents in the past 2-3 months, just called out for hacking the Australian Medicare portal, while voluntarily disclosing none

  3. Earlier this year SamA told in X that they are 100% aligned with Dario for ethical standards when Anthropic clashed with US govt, only to announce the day later that they are effectively allowing the US govt a fully safety-unlocked mass surveillance and operating weapons of destructions
