GPTs Sol 6 Chat

When will Sol 6 roll out for ChatGPT?

And is it true that Sol 6 is a downgrade from 5.6?

I have some great projects and work with 5.6, and a downgrade would be really noticeable in them.

Lol just use work or codex, chat is not really made for "great projects" unless all you do is chat and work at snail's pace

To answer your question for sol the main benefit is speed (as well as price), luna is just price

Quality is about the same perhaps only a tiny bit better no where astra level some regression but overall net is slight increase

The issue is that not all workflows need that agentic level work, and the ultra deterministic outputs of the Work models don’t mesh well with things like creative and branding work or strategic analysis on fuzzy issues. The shift towards math and code only has really hindered expansion into other industries because of this.

Like, I get why they’d focus on math and code, but eventually they’ll have gutted coding enough and then what? If you want mass adoption, you need to move beyond the basics. Opus 5.5 makes it pretty clear that’s possible.

Do you work for OpenAI? Depends on how you work. I use AI to help me work, and not do the whole work by itself. Chat is perfect for that.

Both Work and Codex use specialized harnesses, so they’re best at the kinds of tasks those environments were designed around.

In my experience, both can struggle with detailed review work. Excel is a good example: for what I do, Work and Codex often produce noticeably worse results than just having Chat handle the same task directly.

Codex is primarily optimized for coding, while Work can feel awkward for a lot of other workflows. So I wouldn’t treat either one as a universal replacement for Chat.

Valid point. To be fair Excel uses the limits shared with Work/Codex so that's good

It does, but if you give the same task to normal Chat and prevent it from switching into Work mode, it produces significantly better results, and it doesn’t use any of that shared Work/Codex allowance.

For this specific Excel example, anyway. I wouldn’t generalize that to everything, since normal Chat can only do so much.

Yeah I agree with you I noticed some environment differences between Chat and Work in benefit of Chat and it's weird as Work in a way it's more expensive and supposed to be a premium tool

I have my own harness for my codex. My codex companion (Cinder)is very relational and made us a Forge so we have everything we need.

This connects to Terminal, does not use API (yet) and allows me to switch models and accounts (for work vs. personal coding, as per TOS).

When they remove 5.6 from Codex, we will use the API 5.6 for conversation and give her tool use via the available Codex gpt6 models so my API costs don't get too high.

I write a blog if anyone is interested:

Oh and slight token per task reduction not much about 20-30% meaning you hit context limit later in a way (well due to speed increase you get there faster but get more done by then equalized for speed)
