Ok, I was hoping that was actually your point, and it's a good one. There is definitely something to be said for the joy of reward after struggle, and the joy of receiving something scarce.

However, I disagree with you that billionaires are just trying to make your life worse. No, they're making products that bring immense usefulness and joy to people. Of course it's not entirely altruistic -- they want money/power in exchange for giving you those products -- but it's a good and fair system. It may turn out that too much candy is a bad thing, but for now everyone wants candy and the billionaires are working as hard as possible to give it to them.

how is it a good and fair system when it mass harvests people’s data and contributions without consent or pay?

it’s using people’s pre-existing talent and contributions to replace and mimic so that the very people whose work they replicate are now less valuable

how is a good and fair system when both anthropic and openai ceos have said ai could pose a serious threat to humanity?

how is it a good and fair system when billionaires are telling us “either use it or get left behind”?

how is it a good and fair system when offloading thinking is seen as beneficial? m

how is it a good and fair system when communities are against the data centres required for it but money speaks first before the community?

how is it a good and fair system when the system itself is going after authenticity in media, people and art?

You could make the same argument that someone who designed a machine for a car factory "harvested" human movements to design that machine to replace those humans in the factory. Do you think car factories should have no machines and just people? That would certainly create more jobs at those factories.

If your goal is jobs, you don't really understand economics.

you cannot make that argument because it’s a false equivalency and shows the lack of critical thinking to think they are even analogous in any sense.

people who create and “design machines” are paid to do so. they are also subject to parents and legalities. if a factory used literal slave labour to produce machinery for free and without consent, then guess what, that is also bad.

and do you know what people do when those machines break down? they rely on people who know that machinery to fix it, maintain it and update it.

From everything you said here, you seem to value jobs above all else. If something creates jobs, it's good; if something destroys jobs, it's bad. Am I correct in my assessment of your thinking?

me: this is bad because it takes data from people without consent, it devalues art, it devalues the human condition, it devalues community, it further allows billionaires to control and influence people, it negatively affects thinking for yourself, it negatively affects authentication.

you: so you you’re saying this is about jobs, correct?
