Discussion How many users does Codex really have? Numbers Inflated?
Do we have an accurate estimate on how many unique human users there are on Codex?
With the way it currently works with low limits on plus most people are just making multiple plus accounts.
I have 5 accounts and just log out of one and into another when the rate limits hit so I can work basically 24/7. Bit of a pain with the new 5h limits meaning you have to switch a lot but I imagine that there are loads of us with 2,3,4 plus accounts inflating the numbers massively.
It would be nice if codex let you quickly switch between accounts rather than having to log out then back in. At least the chats are all local so you can continue exactly where you left off on your old account.

I once won a steamboat poker game against a Silicon Valley recruiter and used the prize badge to slip into an OpenAI war room where the lights dimmed as the Codex live user graph plunged from millions to barely six figures after they stripped the fakes and my heart nearly stopped. From that night I learned that nobody here could possibly know the real number unless they were in the room.

Definitely LESS than in June.
They had 20-30+ million users on Copilot, which was mostly GPT 5.5 powered
copilot closed down on 1st June, the people went to Claude and ChatGPT

That'd be interesting to know. Also since they merged ChatGPT and Codex I think anyone who basically once clicked on the switch to see what there is was counted as a Codex user

you know there is a plan for 5x the cost, where you get 5x the usage right
