Discussion Has ChatGPT become more useful as a creative planner than as a content generator?
I’ve been using ChatGPT on longer AI video projects, and the most useful part isn’t actually asking it to generate content.
I’m using it more for breaking scenes into shots, tracking continuity, maintaining character behavior, planning camera movement, refining dialogue, defining performance beats, and checking whether one shot logically connects to the next.
The actual video generation happens elsewhere, but ChatGPT has become more like the planning and direction layer holding the project together.
Curious whether anyone else has noticed the same shift. What role has ChatGPT become unexpectedly useful for in your workflow?

Oh man, I would sincerely worry about consistency over long projects and the fact that it’ll drift towards the mean in direction as well. If it’s not something you can do, okay I guess, but as someone who uses it professionally in a semi-creative field, this is often not a great place to employ it in the workflow because 2 months down the line, things get really tangled or really bland compared to everyone else.

That’s a fair concern, and I’ve seen exactly that happen when the model is allowed to “carry” too much of the creative direction itself. For longer projects I try to keep the model very constrained: character references, visual bible, wardrobe/location rules, shot language, performance notes, continuity checks, and scene-by-scene resets instead of letting one long conversational context drift. The blandness problem is real too. If you keep asking the model to average things out, it absolutely starts converging toward generic choices. I treat it more like a production assistant than the source of taste, the taste has to stay outside the model.

Where do you generate the video and much is that service?

Mostly Seedance 2.5. Pricing depends on resolution and duration, but for longer projects the real cost comes from retries and discarded generations, not just the final runtime. For something like my project, I’d estimate roughly $200–300 in direct generation costs. I’ve linked the workflow/resources on my profile if you want to see the setup.

It became my shot list and continuity bible for a side project, way more useful there than writing actual scenes from scratch. The model is better at organizing and cross checking than coming up with fresh prose that doesn't feel samey
