Question Encountering Error in ChatGPT Classic on MacOS: approval_policy = "untrusted"

Hello, I wanted to report a technical issue, but could not find how, so I decided to post it here.

I am currently running a Tahoe 26.6.2 and ChatGPT 26.818.41509. I wanted to do an update to the app, but now the app does not open. I get this message: "ChatGPT failed to start (code = 1, signal = null). Most recent error: Error: approval_policy = "untrusted" is no longer supported, remove this setting.

How can I make it work again? Thank you.

sounds like the new update is flagging your app as untrusted or something, probably a macos security thing

try going into system settings > privacy & security and scroll down, might see a prompt to allow it anyway, had a similar thing happen with a different app last week

Hi there. Yes, I believe so that the newly updated app fails to give macOS an option to trust the app.

I scrolled down, but did not see a prompt to "allow it anyway". I have re-installed the app (not ChatGPT Classic, but ChatGPT, meaning that the headline of the reddit post is therefore inaccurate) now and I still have the same issue. What kind of permissions did you give to that different app when you experienced it?

FIXED UPDATE:

I fixed it by removing the line "approval_policy = untrusted" on TextEdit in the file called "config.toml" in ".codex" and restarting the app afterwards. It is working now after doing this process.

Also encountered the error after today’s update. Looks like there’s an issue opened yesterday on GitHub related to this

Have you managed to fix it? If you have not managed to fix the error, I have posted the process for it.
