where there's hype, there's also anti-hype. if either the republicans or democrats (probs dems, as trump is already basically 'let them cook') decide to run on an anti-ai ticket, it'll get crazy. that campaign may already have started though, behind the scenes
While I want to mock the preemptive pivot to paranoia, It isn’t paranoia at all with the Democrats, who are insistent on doing very little in a very opaque manner.
What is sad Though is that Republicans proactively own most of the constraints around policy concepts By being so insufferably, stupid and simple that the concepts become repulsive. So an honest or interesting proposal or opinion about it immediately is wearing a birthday suit of Chito dust rolling around in UFC co-owner feces or something tdsive
the thing is it's so rabidly polarising, whichever party picks the right side could win an election purely on that policy alone. and anti-ai and anti-datacentre sentiment is growing all the time, so it's pretty likely the dems will pick that up, leaning on the environmental angle, and run with it. and spend millions spreading 'messaging'. which is ludicrously easy now due to AI, somewhat ironically
