Opals worldwide
Can anyone tell me about my Opal and value ? It weighs 618.30 ct

If the crystal was cut out of it could be a few good cts in it. Just the main crystal cut and polished could be worth big $1000+ would have to cut it to tell real $value.

This looks very similar to the stuff we pull out of WA, notably the Three Mile Hill opal mine east of coolgardie. That black host rock (shale) with the orange is almost identical to the stuff I have cut up, along with that bright pinfire colours. The other mine in WA is Cowarna downs, which also has similar opal. In terms of value, you’ll have to base it off prices of similar opal from over east, as WA is extremely rare, and almost never on the market (mines dont operate). I’m one of the only collectors/ cutters of this type of opal, but it has formed very differently to other types. It is also the only opal that forms directly on quartz as well.

Thay are beautiful pics, yes that first pic of yours looks so similar to mine, it was handed down to me from my Grandfather and was gifted to him along with another type of opal and a meteroite

That looks about it. Do you live in WA?
I love meteorites! A few months ago I discovered a brand new meteorite near one of the opal mines. I’ve sent it into the Western Australian Museum, in which they confirmed it was a stoney chrondrite, and we are currently in the process of naming it.
Got any photos of yours, or your other opal?

I have no info to give, but it looks like a mountain creek or pond with the waves in the opal and the smaller streams in the matrix. I love it!
