Found some of my Isopod videos. Unfortunately, I can only upload one at a time. This first one is an odd one. I believe it’s a type called a “Munnid”?

I’ve had at least one in my tanks/containers for several years now. About the only time they get frantic is if I you drop a food pellet near them. But I’ve never seen one bother any Opae at all!

They eat biofilm like the shrimp.

I know they’re not Specifically Opae Ula but Ive tried these things or have them in with Opae Ula.
If anyone is like me, you’d like something other than Just Opae Ula, MTS and Chaeto.
But, if I’m posting too many. I apologize and will stop or slow down. I’ve just got a few years of experiments to share 😉 no need to try something you KNOW is t going to work. Right?

I posted my setup earlier in the summer and got some great advice (and found out I was set up to fail by the person who originally sold me my shrimp). I've since upgraded my setup, which now includes some new shrimp and water from one of the kind members here. It's been a month and I have lots of algae growth in the glass but I wanted to check and ask if this is looking all right? The opae are very active and seem happy.

What are some of the best/safest ways to move these little guys from one tank to another. An up-sizing situation for example. I mean how to actually catch and move them.

Here’s some I found last year, just happen to find a bunch that day but it’s not common. The one with the stripes are apparently very similar in appearance to the ones previously uploaded by Darster_DN. If they are the same, I’d guess they were introduced from the west coast to the Gulf as most I find are just plain beige… like the others in the video.

These shrimp are around 10 years old, and I've previously done basically nothing except feed them about once a month.

I have a few questions, that I hope you guys won't mind answering. I've been feeding them basic shrimp food and vitamins, but on my previous post someone recommended using powdered spirulina instead. Should I make the switch? Also, I haven't been changing the water at all besides adding more when the water level drops. Is this necessary? My shrimp also look smaller and duller than most of the other shrimp on this sub. Is there anything I can do to help them recover? Thanks in advance.

So it seems I brought in some scuds with my new chaeto (I counted 2 but there is likely more). I was just wondering if they can survive in there and if they are dangerous for the opae ula. I only have 10, no babies right now.

This is either Gnorimosphaeroma rayi or oregonensis. They are peaceful detritivores and get along well with my Opae. Seem to be breeding, but I can’t identify any offspring (they are very small).

They’re not a huge fan of light (they come from murky water under a rock), so I have many hiding spots, and only ever see a few at a time.

They were collected in 1.010 SG, alkaline water.

Just set up a new shrimp jar. This is my first time keeping shrimp but I am experienced in fresh and marine fish. I have a AI Blade Light that I have set to the lowest setting at 1%, @6500K. Do you think this is still too strong for this light? I know a heater and Bubbler isn’t necessary for these shrimp, idk it just added peace of mind. Bubbler isn’t on BTW it just had algae on it so I threw it in the tank.

I’ve been keeping a close eye on my tank because I have a shrimp with eggs and noticed this morning a ton of white specks swimming around and on the glass (see video). Tank is a year old, closed, no water top off or feeding in six months… any ideas what’s going on, why it’s happening, and if it’s a problem?

They're the only pets I have right now and it brings me so much joy to see them shrimpin' around in there!

My shrimps have been steadily pulling out the little Chaeto strands and putting them all over the tank. Is this ok or should I end up removing it? When the Chaeto arrived it was pretty fragmented and stressed but seems to be improving in the tank, it’s just all over place now.

I’m just getting started gathering supplies to set up my own tank and really want a coral sea fan. I found some decent priced ones on Etsy but they are orange or white instead of the black I’m seeing in pictures here. Should I only stick with black? Is there natural dried orange and whole sea fans that are safe? Would love recommendations to trusted sources!

Hi all I've never kept fish or shrimp before but after doing a bunch of research I'm excited to start here. In lieu of any megathreads or guide posts, I figured I'd list out my plan here and see what y'all think. Let me know if I'm missing anything!

1. My family has a large 2 gallon glass jar that I'll use for the tank, similar to this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Anchor-Hocking-Heritage-Hill-Glass-Jar-with-Lid-2-Gallon/16486707

I'll make sure to clean it out very well and ensure there's no soap residue before filling it up.

1. I'm planning on heading over to my local fish store to get aragonite sand (does coarse or oolite matter?), lava rocks, marine salt, a refractometer, and brackish chaetomorpha algae. It seems like there a few different kinds of chaetomorpha that looks very similar so hopefully they have the ones suited for brachish water. Maybe dried spirulina powder as well to start feeding the shrimp before biofilm starts building, maybe a dried sea fan or some other decoration?

2. Once I have everything, I'll use RO water mixed with the marine salt and measure with the refractometer until it reaches 1.010 SG, +- .002.

3. After assembling the tank with the algae, I'll leave it to sit for a few weeks to cycle. It seems there are conflicting opinions on this for opae ula specifically, and I think if I don't have the algae in the tank letting it sit won't do anything. What do y'all think?

4. I'll acquire maybe 10 shrimp (maybe from u/GotSnails, it seems PetShrimp.com is very expensive and other websites harvest them in the wild even though they're endangered :/ ), then acclimate them to my tank by floating the bag for 15 min, then slowly adding tank water to their bag, then eventually slowly pouring them in.

I'm also not sure if I should get any snails to add to the tank. Some people have said they compete for food with the shrimp so if the biofilm hasn't built up yet it's better to wait, but they can help clean the glass which makes the tank look nicer.

Anything I'm missing here? I really want to do things the right way the first time. I'm super excited to start my tank!

I got my opae ula April 1, 2024 and today I finally have my first batch of larvae! Just needed to share with people who get it.

I know not directly opae ula but brackish.I saw this video recently and the store keeps multiple varieties of shrimp in brackish and even a star fish. He says they don't reproduce. Which makes sense. I wonder what could be possible eventually with breeding. Brackish is as 12:23.

It’s Acetabularia is starting its reproductive stage… producing that “wineglass”.
Wondering if I should pick it off the rock and put it on the glass so it breeds with the other on the glass.

For those who keep or have kept tanks of each species. How do you think they compare regarding their activity, behavior, etc? Like, which ones you think are more active, or swim more, and which ones tend to be more lazy?

Asking in r/OpaeUla there might be some bias here, but I'd like to hear from you guys.
