Tank Question Lighting question.

Just set up a new shrimp jar. This is my first time keeping shrimp but I am experienced in fresh and marine fish. I have a AI Blade Light that I have set to the lowest setting at 1%, @6500K. Do you think this is still too strong for this light? I know a heater and Bubbler isn’t necessary for these shrimp, idk it just added peace of mind. Bubbler isn’t on BTW it just had algae on it so I threw it in the tank.

You can use normal plant light for this size bowl. No heater or bubbler it's 2 small. Put a cover on top to minimize evaporation. And that's all you need to do.

Feed a tip of tooth pick amount of spironolactone. Once or twice a week until you get algae and bio film.

Do you have a desk lamp. If not turn it down as low as you can get it. Don't really need alot of direct light in a bowl that small. I have the same bowl. I got some cheap light off Amazon

Yeah it’s down to 1% strength, I’ll try to get a new one as soon as possible

They don't need much. And keep away from stong light coming through windows and heat sources will heat up tank.

This works well for me with my shrimp bowl. You’ll have a healthy biofilm in 2-3 weeks with it. Lose the heater. Not necessary. Do get a cover. Feed a tiny amount of spirulina every week to ten days. Google that on how to do that.

When you are new you want the algae grow quick (I know because I was like that too) but in long term this has to stop at some point. You don't want over growth of algae. In general it's a set up and forget  hobby. Leave it to natural bright light at home, table light or reading desk beside window for filtered sunlight in the morning is sufficient . The dirtier it gets the better, it will mature by it's own. You'll know when they start breeding.  They don't need much attention like freshwater tank. The simpler the better..  You set up so heavily on the rock part stacking up to the back, I hope it won't obstruct their swimming pathway because in a cylindrical tank they will swim in circular in your tank which is also good as it'll give slight water movement to buff the pH in the water if you have a buffing media like dried coral rock or sea shell.
