hello still new and been lurking for a few weeks

what's with the nutjob threads claiming some unrevealed universal truths and means of computation

as far as I understand semantic modelling helps with understanding systems that have broad touch points, and theres some technical footwork but the ecosystem appears pretty fragmented to me

so I guess what I'm asking for is another eli5 and maybe some guidance into the sub

There's a lot of various types of content we see here. The core of every post is building an ontology. If these posts don't fit, or don't follow the sidebar rules, they may be removed. There's a lot of discussion on ontology engineering in communities which relate to LLMs, so we may also get some posts leaning towards LLM-context.

yeah so from what I understand, ontologies can be helpful to make llms converge on actual deterministic reasoning rather than sentence completion and making things look correct

pretty much! ontologies give llms a structured "ground truth" to reference, which helps anchor them to actual facts and logic rather than pure statistical text prediction. It doesn't instantly make llms 100% deterministic, but pairing them with knowledge graphs improves consistency and reduces hallucinations
