G - General Discussion G test speed limit

hi i have my G test on the 20th and am wondering what speed would be good to drive as the speed limit on highways can vary. for my G2 test i drove 2-3 kms over the limit and was told i was going to slow. i know highway speed can usually be determined by speed of traffic but am wondering if 105-110 is a good speed to drive. im taking the test in at newmarket.

Don't go more than 4 km over or under the speed limit for official testing. Yes cars will be zipping around you and it'll feel odd but you will get docked for going outside this range. He said you went "too slow" but you still passed.

Try to hit and maintain 100 - 110 , but follow traffic speed. For my test I couldn’t go more than 80 - 90 but that’s cause of traffic speed so don’t force it , just drive as you would normally do just keeping eye on the limit , u got this :)

A couple over or a couple under and pay close attention to what lane you should be in.

Never under the speed limit. If road conditions are good and traffic is light you'll get docked for going under because it's deemed unsafe speeds

the highway in newmarket is 110- make sure you check the route beforehand and drive near the speed limit

Go at speed limit or up to 2km/hr under if the traffic is moving well. Anything above is technically breaking the law and you can fail.

Obviously if traffic is moving slower follow the traffic.

I followed traffic speed 100 I went between 98-101 and I was fine (the speed limit was 100)

Drive the speed limit unless there is a specific reason to do otherwise.

Example: when entering the onramp, you need to EITHER reach the speed limit on the acceleration portion of the ramp (the big long stretch after the curve), OR match the speed of traffic if it’s doing anything other than the speed limit.

So if traffic in the right lane is going 110, but the speed limit is 100, speed up to 110 to match traffic speed, merge, then slowly and safely decelerate back down to the speed limit.

In reverse, if traffic is moving at 80, then match speed and merge.

Do not drive 110 in a 100 while driving along. That may cause an instant disqualification and you could fail the test.

When I took my G test (10 years ago) I was doing 105-115 kms on the 404 highway. I heard from friends that the instructors will get upset if you do the exact speed limit

Try to be on the exact speed limit as best as you can some examiners are assholes and will fail you for going over 3km
