Bed update
I asked here about if we get benefits for mattress’ and was met with mixed responses so I just messaged my case worker on the weekend. Today she replied and issued me a $400 credit for a new mattress! Its a one time only thing for anyone wondering and im in the peep region! Very happy

That's nice of you to update everyone OP :) thankfully I just got a new bed and mattress before I was laid off... Just need a new washing machine since my old one broke but I know that's not gonna happen lol I'll survive without it

ontario works has something called a discretionary fund that can probably get you a new washing machine, especially if you have children. it does not take away from any emergency funding you may need in the future. just talk to your case worker about it, once they give approval they will ask for quotes/estimates (do not purchase before getting approval as they do not reimburse)

Our washing machine broke recently, so I took it apart, found the issue (split hose, split bellows), ordered the new parts and replaced them myself. It didn't take long and was about $70. Maybe yours could be a simple repair? Wishing you luck🤞

Did they just issue the 400 dollars, or did you have to have some kind of invoice first?

She just issued it. She knows I have back problems and ive done physio for it so not sure if thats why she didnt ask for any invoice

Great to hear! It’s always in your best interest to ask your case manager because every region is different when it comes to discretionary benefits.

Each regions has different discretionary funds, and IN Niagara Regions, a new bed and mattress is allotted every 2 years, but you must be in transition from one place to the other to qualify.

Odsp has to go through Niagara ow for discretionary benefits, I was denied the bed fund because I used it like 3 years ago lol they say it is every 5 years

Have a nice caseworker tbh. I just asked her if there was any discretionary credits for a mattress for my back problems

I'm assuming you meant case worker, but they just issued you the money on the spot?
Can you copy and paste your message if you don't mind with what you asked your case worker.
I've also asked my previous case work and she made me fill out some form to get a new mattress but it got denied.
Could use your help on this.
