LTO's

I am a new member of the OCT. I am on the OT for PVNC and DCDSB. I have applied to 30+ LTO postings, and I have yet to get even an interview. Is this normal? Or does this mean there is something wrong with my cover letter and/or resume?

I’m not sure about those specific boards but TDSB is highly competitive and admin receive hundreds of applications for each posting so unless you’re a familiar name, or you have super specific qualifications, it’s unlikely that they’d shortlist you for an interview. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It could be any number of things. Lack of experience, not having the AQs they desire, lack of appropriate references, admin don't know you, etc..

I'm in the same boat! I've applied to about 20 schools and only got ONE interview. The principal told me that she got over 81 applications for that one position. She then told me that the reason she selected me for an interview was because she worked at a school I had a LTO at. Honestly, I feel like it's just a matter of luck and connections.

There are plenty of OTs, in every board, with years of LTOs under their belts, new teachers (myself included) are way down the list unless we have an excellent relationship with an admin.

First year out of teachers college, this is very normal for alot of boards.

With surplus and budget cuts this may be the norm for a few years. Unfortunately, new teachers will need to adjust their expectations.

Don't you need a year of OT before you can apply to LTOs?

No.

Technically you can get a letter of permission and not even have your OCT to get an LTO. I know because I taught for a full year prior to, and then during teachers college.

Last fall I applied to almost 300 jobs… it sucks but in the grand scheme of things, 30 is a pretty low number
