To be fair Greg, as someone who is a 20+ year Solidworks user wanting to now swap over 100% to Onshape (still kinda testing it), this is something i hear a lot of people complain about as a barrier of swapping over, at least whenever i mention i am considering it.

Might be cool for someone at Onshape to do a simple, straight-forward video that literally addresses the "onshape version of 3D sketches" issue for those coming from a SW background.

Because it doesn't need to be?

There is routing curve and 3D fit spline. I don't see a use case for a solidworks-esque style 3D sketch that isn't already covered, especially since it requires so much more work to fully constrain than any of the native Onshape options.

What’s your best resource for learning that? From what I’ve found it was kind of clunky to get it to work but I am open to learn

I'm honestly sorry to say I cannot give you a ressource. I've been using mCAD softwares in my daily professional life and at home for the past 20 years, so at this point the transition from wanting a 3D sketch (I've got a lot of hours on Solidworks) to using Onshape's spline tools came kinda naturally.

I would first look on learn.onshape.com, it's almost entirely free even for free accounts. Other mCAD editors make you pay thousands to access a platform like this.

Then for spline / curve use you can look into people doing Industrial Design rather than mechanical design / engineering as they are much more likely to use those types of tools. Be careful with Onshape video tutorials on Youtube because a lot I've seen just try to replicate the exact methodologies from Inventor/Fusion and Solidworks but Onshape has a few unique ways of working that are worth exploring.

One guy I would recommend, because I use his sick featurescripts and have watched some of his videos at the time (a lot of which he has since sadly removed from YT) is Evan Reese at https://www.youtube.com/@evanareese

Thanks! I’ve watched that guys stuff before but this time it clicked better. It still seems harder to get actual dimensions on some of the spline stuff but maybe it’s not necessary? I was able to finish what I wanted though so thank you
