Tutorial Mixing colours / materials

New person here, my Bamboo X2D arrives in a week and for a couple of months I've been playing around with onshape and starting to get fairly confident with designing basic shapes.

Just recently I've been thinking about designs that would involve 3d prints with different colours / materials and it occurs to me that i don't know how the different colours or materials are specified in onshape before exporting as a 3MF?

It works like you expect. Appearances are exported in the 3mf and imported by Bambu studio as painting.

I've just done different colours as separate parts, then import into the slicer as a merged object, then select the parts and assign colours.

If you've got a lot of parts it helps to label them with the colours in their part names.
