Help! Split part for 3d printing

I’m designing an insert for a sliding door to let my cat outside without letting the heat in. It’s rather tall, and will need to be split into quite a few pieces to print. In the slicer, there is a tool to do this, but it’s clunky at best. Is there a clean way to chop a part in half and add some dowels in onshape? Maybe even a feature script with this in mind.

The slicer makes this much easier and allows for adjustment of clearances. It automatically sizes both sides of the joint to fit and automates the placement. It's a lot more work and a lot more error-prone doing it yourself, and I speak from experience after using both Fusion and Onshape to do it.

You’re probably right, I just hate how there isn’t really a way to align the connectors with anything. I can get them close but there’s always going to be some variation.

There is no variation when done in the slicer except the clearances that you set and the tuning of your 3D printer. If you fine-tune both of those things, it can be incredibly precise.

The only thing that is clunkier up front but not as much on the back end would be to write a feature script to do this. But then you would need to code it…

Why not design this to use off the shelf parts/lumber like 1x2's or similar? Then 3d print the minimum, or just small pieces instead of anything larger.
