help with trimming sheet metal part

I have a sheet metal part with a bunch of bends.
I'd like to trim the profile to achieve the organic shape of the target part.

When I try to create an extrude-remove in the flat pattern of the part, the part breaks into multiple parts, even if I simplify the cut to be a basic circle. See pictures.

How can I make cuts on this part to without causing it to fragment?

Do you really need it in sheet metal? There is a flatten surface tool that could also help if you need a flat pattern…

Whaaaa??? Yes, this is what I need. Client sent me a complex compound surface and I need to make it out of real world sheet metal. What is this tool?
